In a kingdom where the king and minister were fools, they decreed that the town operate at night and sleep during the day. A guru and disciple visiting were confused by the town only charging a single price, "duddu", for all goods. The guru realized it was a kingdom of fools and warned the disciple, who stayed. When a thief's brother demanded justice from the king, it led to a convoluted investigation that implicated a dancing girl, goldsmith, and merchant. The guru intervened and convinced the king to make him king instead, changing the kingdom's foolish laws.

Narrator: In the Kingdom of Fools, both the king and

the minister were idiots. They didn’t want to run things
like other kings, so they decided to change night into
day and day into night. They ordered that everyone
should be awake at night, till their fields and run their
businesses only after dark, and go to bed as soon as the
sun came up. Anyone who disobeyed would be
punished with death. The two strangers wandered
around town till evening, when suddenly the whole
town woke up and went about its nightly business.
The two men were hungry. Now that the shops were
open, they went to buy some groceries:
Guru: What is the Price of 1 kg of Rice?
Shopkeeper: A duddu! Any measure of rice you want is
a single duddu.
Disciple and Guru(In shock): What? A single duddu?
(They bought 1 kg of rice and went to another shop)
Disciple: How much is a dozen of bananas?
Another Shopkeeper: A duddu! Are you new here?
Because usually people don’t ask about the price.
Disciple: Yes, we are new here.
(The Guru and The Disciple went somewhere and
cooked the food and was about to eat.)
Guru: Let’s eat
Disciple: Yes, Sure.
(After eating, the guru realized something)
Guru: This is a kingdom of fools! We should get out of
this place as soon as possible or else bad things will
happen to us.
Disciple: No, I don’t want to leave this place, everything
here is cheap and good.
Guru: Fine if u won’t listen then I will go, bye.
Narrator: The Guru left the place afterwards. The
disciple stayed and eat anything he liked. One day a
man approached the kingdom for justice.
Thief’s brother: Your highness, when my brother was
pursuing his ancient trade a wall fell on him and killed
him. The merchant killed my brother. He should have
built a better wall. I want justice for my brother.
King: Justice will be done don’t worry! (angrily) Bring
the merchant!!
(Merchant was summoned)
King: Were you at the house when the wall collapsed?
Merchant: Yes, My lord.
King: You murdered a man! We will have to punish you
now.
Merchant: no No, My lord it was built around my
father’s time. Please punish the person who made it
King: Where does he live?
Merchant: He lives nearby.
King: Summon the bricklayer now!
(servants brought the bricklayer)
King: Did u make this man’s wall
Bricklayer: Yes, My lord.
King: The wall u made fell and killed his broter. We will
have to punish you by death.
Bricklayer: No please, Listen to me. Yes, I built this wall.
I know it’s a bad wall because a dancing girl was
jumping up and down with her anklets jingling. It
distracted me. You must get that girl.
King: You are right. The case deepens. This case
deepens. These cases are not easy to judge. Get that
dancer.
(servants brought the dancing girl)
The Dancing Girl: My lord.
King: Are you the girl who distracted the bricklayer by
walking up and down the street many years ago?
Dancing girl: Yes, My lord
King: You distracted the bricklayer while he was making
the wall and that wall fell on a poor burglar and killed
him. You will be punished.
Dancing girl: No please my lord, I was walking up and
down the street because I had given some jewellery to
the Goldsmith. He made excuses and made me walk up
and down the street many times to his house. Please
punish the goldsmith.
King: Get the Goldsmith. He is the real Culprit.
(King’s servants searched for him and brought him to
the Kingdom)
Goldsmith: It’s true I made her walk to my house. I gave
her excuses because I couldn’t finish making her
jewellery before I finish the rich merchant’s orders. You
know how impatient rich men are.
King: Who is this rich merchant?
Goldsmith: The father of that person beside the
bricklayer.
King: At last we found the real criminal, You have to be
executed in place of your father.
Merchant: No No please please noo!
King: Make a stake for the execution now!
Minister: (Muttering) The merchant is too thin to be
properly executed in this stake.
King: We should find a fat person who fit the stake.
(Finding all over the town and after that they found the
disciple and brought him to the kingdom)
Disciple: No No, I am innocent, I am a sanyasi(crying).
(praying to his guru to return)
(Guru returned)
Guru: Whispering to the disciple. He went to the king.
Guru: O wisest of kings, who is greater? The guru or the
disciple?
King: Ofcourse the Guru.
Guru: Then put me in the stake first after that put the
disciple.
Disciple:(understood the happenings) I was here first,
put me first not him.
(Guru and disciple continued arguing)
King: Why do you want to die first?
Guru: Will you promise to put me to death first if I tell
you?
King: OK
(Guru took the king aside) whispering
That stake is the stake of God of Justice. Whoever dies
on it first will be reborn as the king of the country and
whoever dies next will be the minister of the country.
We are sick of this ascetic life. Now keep your word.
King: (Deeply thinking) POSTPON THE EXECUTION TO
TOMORROW.
King:(Whispering to the minister)let’s go on the stake
ourselves and we will reborn as king and minister.
Holy men don’t tell lies.
Minister: Ok.
King: We will send the criminals tonight. Put the first
person to death first and do the same to the second
too.
(Now night)(Narrator): The king and the minister
disguised themselves as the two and released the guru
and the disciple from the prison. Were taken by loyal
servants and got executed themselves.
People: (panicking)(Confused) How did their death
bodies came here?
Narrator: The people of the town decided all night
about who will become the next king and the minister.
Then they suddenly thought of the guru and the
disciple.
(The next day)
(Guru and disciple about to leave)
People: We need a new king and a new minister. Please
be our king and minister.
Disciple: Okay I will be the minister.
Guru: What? No I can’t be the king.
People: Please please
Guru: Okay okay! On one condition that we will change
the old laws.
Narrator: From then on night would be night and
nothing could be bought for a duddu. It became like
any other place.
