1b Team Expectations Template p2

This document outlines expectations for a team project, including conflict management steps, consequences for non-participation, and a project plan. The team will use a 5-step conflict management process including facing the problem, compromising, identifying solutions, revisiting plans, and getting professor help as a last resort. Two consequences for non-participation are outlined: missing work without notice results in no credit, and extra work is rewarded with bonus points. The project plan assigns responsibilities for the first two modules, with each member completing part of the environmental analysis and SWOT analysis by set due dates. Joanna will lead and submit the first assignment.

OGL 355 Leading Organizational

Innovation and Change:

Team Expectations Part 2
and Team Project Plan
Objectives:
1. Set team conflict management and non-participation expectations.
2. Complete team project plan table.

Complete the following and turn in as a team assignment. There is no need to create any other
document, just complete this one, save as, and post for your team. Everyone earns the same
grade unless consequences of non-participation are enacted (see Worksheet 1b, #2). Make sure to
support your ideas, cite from the textbook, other course materials, and your research per APA
guidelines and as necessary. Minimums are set to ensure support for your discussion, while most
responses will need some type of support to add strength and validity. It is important to cite
definitions, and to earn Excellent the ideas need to be supported with source too. These
responses need to be based in some fact, not just the team’s opinion.

1) Conflict Management. Not all conflict is bad as your team goes through Tuckman’s
Stages of team formation, but not having a way to navigate it is always bad. In this
section, present the steps the team will use when managing conflict. If you have
taken OGL 365-The Aikido Way you may have a jump start. If not, do some
research and determine how your team will work through conflict and resolve it.
The first step is not “contact the professor” it can be one of your last steps for
mediation according to this expectations document. I am always here to support the
team and its success, and as leaders you need to be able to speak to conflict per the
steps provided first.
a. Step 1 - Face the problem do not run or ignore conflict
i. Talk to the person and state how you are feeling, not pointing out what
they are doing wrong. This puts someone on the defensive.
ii. Explain why you are feeling a certain way, understanding the “why” can
help resolve
b. Step 2 - Compromise
i. Listen to the other person's point of view and ask clarifying questions if
needed. Avoid assumptions and assume your understanding may be wrong
(Mind Tools Content team, n.d.).
ii. Take turns speaking, if needed use a mediator to help the conversation

Fall 2023 1
c. Step 3 - Identify a solution do not leave unresolved issues
i. Work together on a plan of action moving forward.
ii. Utilize the team to help find a solution, not just the parties involved, this
will help with the cohesiveness of the team (Mind Tools Content team,
n.d.)
d. Step 4 - Revisit plan of action no later than 24 hours from initial discussion and
finalize further steps if necessary (Mind Tools Content team, n.d.).
e. Step 5 - Send team email to the professor for help and include the entire team on
the email chain.

2) Consequence(s) of Non-Participation. This is another tough one because no one

wants to think their team members are going to flake on them. Again, the answer is
not “go to the professor and let him decide.” When you are in a partnership you
need to set these parameters and other working relationship guidelines, and this is a
good way to practice.

The team will notify the professor of any activation of these guidelines when posting
the assignment with an assignment comment on a module-by-module basis. If
mediation is needed, please send a team email via Canvas Inbox including the
professor. The team needs a minimum of 2, but more may set everyone up for better
success. If the team is struggling, then let’s meet and discuss it early in the process.

Here are some thoughts to get you started, then list out your minimum 2 detailed
and specific consequences.

Idea 1: If someone does not come to a meeting or post their work, without
communicating ahead of time, they will earn X fewer points or X percent less
than the rest of the team on the module assignment.
Idea 2: Establish the type of grade each person wants to earn in the beginning,
and if someone only wants to earn a C, then work it out that is what they will
earn.
Idea 3: Team Member J is going above and beyond, they deserve a bonus of X.
Idea 4: Team Member L does not want to participate in meetings with the team,
send an email inviting them and then enforce the consequence provided in this
document.

a. Consequence 1 - We are all busy and have work and emergencies happen. Be
respectful and notify members as soon as possible but no less than 24 hours,
letting the team know of potential missed work or lack of attendance on team
calls. We are a team and expected to help one another with proper notice. If

Fall 2023 2
notice was not given and you missed completing your work, you will not receive
credit for the assignment. If this is a recurring theme with someone, the team will
refer back to conflict resolution steps.
b. Consequence 2 - Going above and beyond should also be rewarded. If you are
constantly doing more than your share, 10 extra credit bonus points should be
awarded to that person or persons. Professor will be notified upon assignment
submission in the notes section. Awarded person(s) will be identified in the group
meeting upon assignment submission.
c. Consequence 3 - If you can't make a meeting, you still need to help with the
project beforehand. If you completed your portion of the project and
communicated with your team that you will be absent from the call, then 10
points will be deducted from the assignment. Non-participating person(s) will be
identified in the notes section upon assignment submission.

3) Team Project Plan: Complete the following project planning table. This table makes
the team look at the Team Project Assignments in Modules 2-6 to first, understand
the scope of the project, so the team picks the best organization to study, and second,
so the team can set up detailed expectations ahead of time of who will be doing what.
As the team goes through the projects, team members may find someone has a
strength which may change the project planning document, that is okay, if everyone
agrees to it. Be careful to pay attention to the provided table headers as they will
guide you on your planning. Be specific and do not just copy and paste the
directions or list question numbers, say it in your own words, while being specific
with what each person will do for each module.
