and first Prof & HOD of Geriatric Medicine at the same institution. He is the
recipient of the prestigious NIH-Fogarty Fellowship for AIDS research at
University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 2004. Passionate about
teaching medicine, he has mentored medical research at AFMC for 15 yrs now.
He started a forum for undergraduate research which is now one of the big-
gest annual under- graduate medical research conferences in the country. He

About me
I completed my PhD. in Ayurveda Vidya Varidhi-Samhita Siddhant in
2009 and I am involved in teaching and research in my field for the past
twenty plus years.

I was awarded the Maha Ayush Puruskar by the Directorate of Ayush &
I-Care, Mumbai. I was also conferred with the best Academician Award
by MAASD. I have numerous research papers to mu credit and I have
participated in several National and International Conferences.

During my participation, I have been fortunate to be involved in the

capacity of a Chaiperson, Co-Chairpersonal, Speaker as well as a panel-
ist among several distinguished personalities of my field. An academi-
cian by profession, I have deep rooted interest in ensuring the concepts
of Ayurveda are passed on to our upcoming generation in the purest
form possible.

What is like studying in your class?
I generally write some points related to what was taught in the previous
class on the board. Students can quickly revise the chapter. It can be
called as warm up session. When I finish a particular topic, I ask any of the
students to give a quick summary of what has been taught in the class.
Thus I can keep students engaged with the lessons. This makes them
focus more during the next classes. I ask students to recite
important verses in the chapter after me. I develop a habit of asking
questions in students in between the lessons. And also give students an
open platform to raise some questions or doubts regarding what was
taught. I try to make the classroom sessions more interactive. By framing
questions and receiving answers, students can get a deeper view of the
subject. Short projects are given to group of 5 students. I make them
present their topic before class in last 15 minutes Group learning is equally
important as self learning as students can be trained to think in groups
and improve their group decision making. This is another way to keep
students engaged in the classroom.
Students are asked to prepare the lessons in advance by referring texts
and other study materials. So when teacher discusses the lesson in the
class, students would find the subject more engaging and interesting.
Students will have that freedom to express themselves whenever needed
which gives them a sense of peace and happiness. Keeping up a pleasant
classroom environment can impact the way they grasp the lessons.

How does your professional experience impact your lessons?

The professional experience adds a boost to the teaching skills by and
large. As teaching is not only imparting knowledge but to nurture life
skills of students.
Students would find it interesting if teachers can connect the subject that
is being taught to incidents in real life. This also helps them to relate the
subject better and gain a better understanding.
Professional course like ours is basically for capacity building and
entrepreneurship developing. Incorporation of professional practice
values in teaching lessons help students focus on their goals.
The ethics related to profession can only be cultivated in students if they
are given examples and experiences from real world.
Case studies are a perfect example of amalgamation of professional
experience in teaching lessons. A case study helps in bringing the
understanding of complex issue or object. It can extend experience or add
strength to the existing knowledge through first hand experiences.
Thus, demonstration of a sense of unity or cohesion between roles as
teacher and professional conveys that they are professionally balanced
and capable of fulfilling all of the responsibilities of the position.

About us :
In a tenure of 36 years in higher education, Dr. Debjani Dasgupta has impacted
several thousand students both in India and abroad. Currently she is the Director at
the School of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics, DY Patil deemed to be University,
Navi Mumbai. Dr. Dasgupta is a recipient of several awards throughout her educa-
tional career right from her graduation to her Post-Doctoral years. She was awarded
the prestigious "Kansas Health foundation USA' fellowship, for Post-Doctoral
research in Cancer Biology. Professionally she has also been presented with the Prof.
Indira Parikh 50 Women in Education Leaders at the World Education Congress.
Higher education in Science and Technology is effectively achieved through strong
research initiatives Dr. Debjani brought to her students the research experience she
gathered during her education abroad as a Post-Doctoral fellow. She established
several new research initiatives in Biotechnology and Bioinformatics. Her innovative
approaches in education benefitted students across all levels of learning, right from
undergraduate to Ph.D. students. She has unleashed a culture of thinking and
problem solving amongst her students by steering collaborations with the Industry
and Academia, at the School of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics. She has nurtured
resilient students who have learnt the art of learning, so as to be successful in the
new age jobs.
Dr. Debjani follows 'The Complete Works of Swami Vivekananda.' She believes and
practices the words of Vivekananda as quoted "Education is the manifestation of the
perfection already in Man."

About me :

Prof. Deepa Reddy has 17 years of experience in the Science of Nursing

education and administration. She received her MSN from Dr. G. Sakun-
thala College of Nursing, Tamil Nadu under Dr. MGR Medical University,
Chennai. She received her BSN from the Bishop’s College of Nursing,
Tamil Nadu under Dr. MGR Medical University, Chennai.

She has been working in academics for the past 15 years and her areas
of teaching expertise include Paediatric Nursing, Nursing Education,
Midwifery & Obstetrical Nursing, Advance Nursing Practice, and genet-
ics. She received the best poster award on Caring for Innovations and
Innovators in Nursing Education (Review Studies on High Fidelity Simu-
lation. Jan.2016) from Hinduja College of Nursing. She has received Cer-
tificate of appreciation from TNAI (2014-15).

She is a life member of the Trained Nurses Association of India, Oncolo-

gy Nurses Association of India, and Society of Midwives India. She is the
secretary of the Institutional Ethical Committee at the D. Y. Patil Deemed

name. She is the author of ‘Neonatal and Paediatric Nursing Procedure’.

What is it like studying in your class? What makes your class

unique?
My lectures are interactive sessions in which I encourage students to
explore various nuances of the hospitality industry. My teaching is case
study oriented as I feel scholastic knowledge must be accompanied by

audio-visual aids in my lectures to enhance the teaching-learning experi-

Dr Kailash Jawade, a General Surgeon, is young, dynamic, versatile sur-

geon. After doing his masters training in General surgery from SRTR
Medical College Ambajogai in 2001 he underwent rigorous clinical train-
ings in endoscopy, laparoscopy, hepato-biliary surgery and multi-organ
transplantation from Delhi, Chennai, South Korea and Taiwan. He had
worked with many eminent surgeons and experts.

In his 18 years of surgical practice he has done various complex GI- HPB
procedures, diagnostic endoscopies and laparoscopic procedures inde-
pendently. He was actively involved in more than 300 kidney and 300
liver transplantation and currently key person in developing transplant
programme of DY Patil Hospital. Apart from his clinical work he is inter-
ested in research and academics. To excel himself further he is undergo-
ing PHD in Surgical Gastroenterology.

Currently Or Kailash is heading a unit at DY Patil Hospital. Under his unit
all complex procedures are carried out recently he has done successful
liver left lobe removal surgery (Left hepatectomy) for hemangioma. He
has also done first laparoscopic Fundoplication surgery for hiatus hernia.
Apart from clinical work he is interested in academics. He has started
physician assistant graduate training programme (BSc PA) in department
of Allied health sciences. He is heading department of Allied Health Sci-
ences at DY Patil School of Medicine and trying hard to standardise 15
different courses conducted under this department. Dr Kailash is post
graduate teacher and is planning to start multicenter fellowship pro-
grammes in the field of HPB Surgery, Colorectal surgery and Laparoscopy.
Dr Kailash has social and spiritual bend of mind. He himself has come
from rural area and poor socioeconomic background. He, therefore, un-
derstands problems in the society and wants to do something for the
society. Through NGO DOST (Dhanwantari's Organization for Socio health
Transformation) he is doing social work since 2001. In collaboration with
DY Patil Hospital, DOST Mumbai conducts special organ donation aware-
ness programme during Pandharpur piligrimage, popularly called as Ava-
yavdan Dindi and DOST Instavari. Dr Kailash conducts yearly surgical
camps in Palghar district. Up till now total 8 camps have been done
through which around 2000 patients got operated. These camps give
unique opportunity for the students to work and learn practical clinical
skills. While taking clinical lectures and classes all these factors make his
lecture special and memorable for his students.

University in 2021 for his contribution to research in
Preventive Oncology with Ayurvedic medicines. His Ph.D.
research was titled "Spectroscopic evaluation of
Nischandratva of Abhrak Bhasma, Preclinical evaluation of
Immunomodulation and Chemopreventive efficacy of
Rasasindoor and Shataputi Abhrak Bhasma in DMBA induced
Breast cancer along with their heavy metal analysis.

Examination
We follow Semester pattern with grading system 40% weightage is given
to internal markings and 60% to the final exam. A Management committee
makes sure that the examinations are concluded under strict vigilance and
decorum of examination is maintained as per the University norms.
Evaluation
Academic Evaluation is an integral part of the selected course and is the
instrument to test what the students have learnt and retained.

Internal Assessment
Internal assessment is based on :
1. Class attendance – min requirement 75%,
2. Assignments and theory classes
3. Mid-tern examinations I nose ore examinations both theory and practical
4. Internal viva-voce on project study
5. General behaviour proficiency
6. In case at the end of each Semester student’s attendance is less than 75%,
he or she would not be allowed to sit for examination.

External Assessment
Total evaluation is based on the rules & regulations of the affiliating univer-
sity/board as they conduct the examinations for Degree/Diploma pro-
grams. Degree Course is divided into six Semesters whereas the Diploma
course is evaluated by the university annually.
Continuous evaluation is done for all courses around the year on the basis
of internal tests, specific assignments., practical training, projects. etc.

Research Project Report

A student has to take up a research project carrying 100 marks for Degree
courses in final year as a part of the syllabus. The student selects a topic of
his choice relevant his training program and during research work neces-
sary guidance is provided to him.

Step 2: COMPLETE THE APPLICATION FORM

the courses that you wish to apply for. The cost of applying for
undergraduate programs is INR 1550, postgraduate programs is INR 2150 &
doctoral programs are INR 3150. Scan and attach your recent photograph
and valid address proof along with the application form. SUBMIT YOUR
APPLICATION.
Step 3: ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF APPLICATION FORM
We will send you an acknowledgement email, which will explain how to
check the status of your application. We will call you in case we require any
additional information.
Step 4: ASSESSING YOUR APPLICATION
Once your application has been received, it will be considered and we
might ask you to come and meet us for an interview/Group Discussion
/Written Test or undertake the same online. We will further analyze your
application to ensure you meet the eligibility criteria for the program(s)
you are applying for. We consider your academic history and relevant
experience to ensure you can succeed in your program. The assessment
process usually ranges between 2-10 working days. Once the process is
complete, we will get in touch with you and let you know the status of your
application.

Step 5: POSSIBLE OUTCOMES
We will get in touch with you and let you know the status of your
application. The following will be the outcomes :
• CONFIRMED : You have been granted a confirmed seat and you can claim
it by submitting the relevant documents and paying the
tuition fee.

• PROVISIONAL : You have met some of the eligibility requirements for

entry to your chosen program of study and we would like
to offer you a provisional seat till you satisfy the rest of
the requirements in a stipulated time frame. If you are
unable to clear the eligibility requirements, your
admission will stand Cancelled.

• CONDITIONAL : You has to meet the conditions and approvals listed in

your conditional offer in order to claim a formal offer
from the University.

• DECLINED: If you don’t meet the entry requirements or all seats are
taken, we might offer you an alternative program.

Step 6: ACCEPTANCE OF OFFER

Once you accept our offer, we will require your documents and once the

 Cancellation Policy

Full fees will be refunded if a candidate withdraws admission within 1

month from the date of securing admission. INR 2,000 will be deducted on
account of administrative charges.
No fees will be refunded if a candidate withdraws admission after 1 month
of securing admission.
For withdrawal, a handwritten application has to be submitted to the
Admissions Office along with the fee receipt.
Refund /Cancellation process will be initiated only after the candidate has
submitted the No dues form in the administrative department.
