BUS SERVICE DETAILS – ROUTES AND TIMETABLES

1. Frequency of Bus Services

In an endeavour to provide quality customer service information, scheduled frequencies of all

services are included in this guide. The information will help you to estimate the waiting time for
buses.

Scheduled frequencies are the intervals at which buses leave the interchange or terminal. The
frequencies printed in the guide are the average weekday frequencies for both directions at
different times of the day. As the scheduled frequencies are averaged over periods of time, there
may be minor differences from the frequencies printed.

The guide also provides frequencies for Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays which are
obviously different to those of the weekdays.

While the bus operators make every effort to ensure timely release of buses and adherence of
schedules by their drivers, operated frequencies can deviate due to factors beyond their control
such as traffic conditions, road works, accidents, bus breakdowns, inclement weather and
customer loading. Although any of these factors will lengthen the waiting time, bus operators must
aim at achieving 75% schedule adherence most of the time.

Scheduled frequencies are reviewed constantly and adjustments are made when necessary taking
into consideration traffic conditions and customers demand.

Fares are charged according to the number of fare stages travelled (distance-related fare). Each
fare stage is about 1.6 km. These fare stages coincide with specific bus stops on each route and
are of yellow colour.

(c) Concessionary Fares

Fares on a concession basis are allowed to the following categories of passengers:

(a) Students
(b) Children

(c) Pensioner/disabled

A student is defined as a person who is registered as a full-time student at any primary, secondary,
post-secondary or tertiary institution approved by the Ministry of Education and Human Resources
and is following a full-time course of a duration not less than 9 months at a secondary or tertiary
institution or 6 months at a post-secondary institution

Students are normally issued with Student Identity Cards.

A person under the age of 13 is considered to be a child.

No fare is claimed in respect of a child under the age of 3 who does not occupy a seat.

Every pensioner or disabled person holding an identity card issued by the Ministry of Social
Security is authorised to travel free of charge as from 15 August 2005.

(d) Student Identity Cards

A new type of student identity card was introduced in 2005. The cards are as follows:

8. Legal requirements for passengers
(a) to form a queue in single file while waiting at a bus stop;

(b) not to use obscene or offensive language or conduct themselves in a disorderly

manner;

(c) not to willfully remove, displace, deface a fare table or other notice in or on the bus;

(d) not to smoke in a bus;

(e) not to leave or attempt to leave a bus without paying the fare for the journey;

(f) to retain their tickets until the end of the journey;

(g) to produce their tickets to any authorized officer on demand;

(h) to pay the fare for the journey taken in case they fail to produce their tickets;

(i) to give priority to disabled persons to enable them to have access to their reserved
seats.
