Math

The document outlines a 2nd grade math lesson plan focusing on shapes. [1] The objectives are for students to demonstrate understanding of straight and curved lines, flat and curved surfaces, and basic shapes. [2] Students will recognize and construct shapes like squares, rectangles, triangles, circles, and half/quarter circles using cutouts and grids. [3] The lesson procedures include identifying shapes of everyday objects, explaining how to make shapes through folding and cutting, and assigning students to design a shape city and identify shapes in objects.

Preliminary Activities

 Greetings

Good morning class! Good morning Ma’am!

 Prayer
Angel of God,
My guardian dear, to whom God’s love
Commits me here, ever this day be at my side,
to light and guard, to rule and guide, Amen.

 Checking of Attendance

Who is absent today?

That’s good no one is absent.

 Reviewing Previous Lesson

Yes ma’am
Do you still remember the 4 basic shapes?
Those basic shapes are the following: The shapes are
1. 2. 3. 4. Circle
Square
Rectangle
And Triangle
circle square rectangle triangle

Very good!.

 Motivation
Before we start to our lesson,
We are going to watch a story about different
shapes. The story can revolve around a
character who goes on an adventure and
encounters various objects or animals that are
represented by different shapes.

B. Explore
Just like the shape of:
ball Circle ma’am

What is the shape of the ball?

clock

What is the shape of the clock? Square ma’am

book
Rectangle ma’am

What is the shape of the book?

1 part of a watermelon Triangle ma’am

What is the shape of the 1 part of the

watermelon?

There is also a half circle and quarter circle

Look at the pictures.

If you divide 1 whole into half, each part is

called half circle.

If you divide 1 whole into fourth, each part is

called quarter circle.

Assessment Questions:
1) What is the difference between a square
A square has its all sides equal in
and a rectangle?
length, and a rectangle has its parallel
sides equal.
2.)

C. Explain
It is easy to draw things to show different
shapes, but there is other way we can do it.

It is through folding, cutting and using a

square grids.

Look at the following examples on how

you can form shapes using folding and
cutting.

 Cooperative Learning

This picture shows forming two triangles

from folding and cutting a square.

There are 2 ways in making a model of circle,

The first way is by using circle objects like
coins, glass, plate and others. The second one
is by using also the folding and cutting
method, but you will be able to get the exact
shape if you will be using the first one.

Now that you already know how to make

circle using folding or cutting, I will show
you how to make Half and quarter circle
using folding and cutting.

Half circle
Quarter circle

Another way of making model of shapes is

by using a square grids.

How do we use a square grids? Here are the

steps in doing models of shapes using a
square grids

You draw straight line and curved line in a

square grids to form pictures of different
shapes.

Learning Tasks:
Using paper, old newspaper or magazine, fold
and cut the following shapes. Paste it on your
answer sheet.

1. square
2. rectangle
3. triangle

Using the square grids draw the following:

1. square
2. rectangle
3. triangle
D. Elaborate

 Task 1: Design a Shape City

Materials: Drawing paper, crayon, rulers,
pencil
Students are tasked to design their own shape
city using different shapes. They need to plan
and draw buildings, roads, parks, and other
elements of a city using squares, rectangles,
triangles, circles, half circles, and quarter
circles. They should label the shapes used in
their design and explain the purpose of each
element in their city.

E. Evaluation

 Games and Gamification

Show the students of an object and ask them

to identify the shapes they can find within it.

F. Assignment

"Find at least 5 objects in your home or

surroundings that represent different shapes.
Write a short description for each object,
explaining why it represents a specific shape."
