Email
Enable notification services to receive timely notifications whenever changes on
your Synology NAS take place.
You can configure your email notifications at Control Panel > Notification >
Email.
Synology Account
To receive email notifications in your Synology Account:
1. Select Receive notifications directly in your Synology Account when
system status changes or errors occur.
2. Click Sign In.
3. Follow the instructions to complete signing in to your Synology Account.
4. Select a rule from the Rule drop-down list or click Create to create a new
rule. This will be the rule used for sending notifications to the email address
you used for your Synology Account.
5. You can click Send Test Email to check that your settings are correct.
Email
To receive email notifications at specific email addresses, you must set up a
sender first. Then, you can configure several recipient profiles to receive
notifications for different events. Each profile can contain multiple email
recipients.
Set up sender
To set up sender with email service providers:
1. Click Set Up.
2. From the Service provider drop-down list, select an email service provider
(e.g., Gmail, Outlook, or QQ).
For Gmail1 or Outlook, click Sign In and follow the instructions.

For QQ, enter your username and password, and click Save.
To set up sender with a custom SMTP server:
The SMTP server can be an IP address or a domain name. If it is a domain name,
please make sure a valid DNS server IP has been entered at Control Panel >
Network > General, and make sure the server is on the Internet.
1. Click Set Up.
2. From the Service provider drop-down list, select Custom SMTP server.
3. Enter the SMTP server name or IP address in the SMTP server field.
4. Enter the SMTP port number in the SMTP port field. If you have specified a
different SMTP port while setting up port forwarding rules, please enter that
number.
5. Select Authentication required, and enter your Username and Password
for the email server if your SMTP server requires authentication.2
6. Select Secure connection (SSL/TLS) required if your SMTP server requires
SSL/TLS connection.
7. Enter the name in the Sender name field if you want to customize sender's
name that appears on email messages sent by the Synology NAS.
8. Enter an email address in the Sender email field.
9. Click Save.
Note:
1. Due to a change in Google Gmail API policy, users must choose
Custom SMTP server settings from the Service provider drop-down
menu to send email for the following purposes. For more information on
how to set it up, refer to this tutorial.
Use ssmtp binary to send emails, such as running user-defined
scripts in Task Scheduler.
Build a website with Web Station and send emails using PHP. This
also includes sending emails from a third-party website package,
such as Wordpress or MantisBT.
2. If you are using Gmail's SMTP server and have enabled two-step
verification, please remember to use your "application-specific
password" provided by Google for SMTP authentication.
Set up recipients
To receive email notifications at specific email addresses:
1. Under Recipient Profiles, click Add to add a recipient profile.

2. Select a rule from the Rule drop-down list or click Create to create a new
rule. This will be the rule used for sending notifications to the email
addresses you enter below.
3. Enter the email addresses you want to receive notifications. You can use a
space, semicolon (;), comma (,), or "Enter" to separate email addresses.
4. Click Add to save the added recipients.
5. You can click on the profile and click Send Test Email to check that your
settings are correct.
Email Settings
Specify a Subject prefix to add to the subject line of each email. This helps
you distinguish the sender or device of the email.
Select Send welcome message to new users if you want to send a welcome
message to each newly created user upon the creation of their account.
Note:
The language of your email notifications can be configured at Control
Panel > Regional Options > Language.
You can modify your notification messages in Control Panel >
Notification > Events, select an event, and click Edit Message. If the
messages are not modified, your Synology NAS sends the default
messages.
