Alarm Management Functions (1)
Alarm Management enables network maintenance personnel to monitor and
manage alarms or events reported by the system or managed objects (MOs).
Alarm Management provides various monitoring and handling rules and
notifies O&M personnel of faults. In this way, network faults can be efficiently
monitored, quickly located, and handled, ensuring proper service running.

Alarm Management Functions (2)
⚫ Alarm management includes setting alarm rules, monitoring alarms, and handling
alarms. 1. Setting alarm rules: Based on experience in alarm handling,
configure alarms to aggregate alarms to improve O&M
efficiency.
For example: During the commissioning, a large number of
repeated alarms may be generated to interfere with O&M.
These alarms can be masked during the commissioning.
2. Monitoring and viewing alarms: Administrators can
perform routine monitoring on the managed objects such as
devices and NEs to detect faults and view alarms in time.
3. Handling alarms: O&M personnel can locate and handle
alarms to restore the device or service.
4. Performance optimization and auditing: Based on the
analysis of information about handling historical alarms, you
can formulate optimization solutions and audit the alarms to
determine whether they are correctly masked.

5.1 Remote Notification
⚫ O&M personnel cannot browse alarms on the
Current Alarms page when they are out of office,
for example, during off-work hours or business
trips. Remote notification enables O&M personnel
to receive SMS or email notifications about alarms
so that they can handle alarms in real time.
⚫ Procedure
Before using the remote notification function, O&M personnel
need to set communication parameters for the SMS gateway,
SMN, or email server to enable the system to support remote
notification. The commissioning is complete, and the O&M
personnel test the interconnection.
Set notification parameters.
Send a notification: Automatic sending and manual sending.

5.4 Concepts of Intermittent and Toggling
Alarms (1)
Intermittent alarm: When the interval between alarm generation and alarm clearance is
less than a specific period, the alarm is considered as an intermittent alarm. The period is
called intermittent period. See Figure 1.
Toggling alarm: When the number of times that the same alarm (with the same alarm
source and same alarm ID) is alternatively generated and cleared exceeds a specified
value, the alarm is considered as a toggling alarm. See Figure 2.
