I would like express my interest to apply for Fontys university of applied sciences for
Bachelor of Mechatronics.
I’m very interested Mechatronics, it all started when I saw a photo of a 3-DOF robot from a
Toyota factory from a magazine my father showed me that sparked my interest to robotics. It
began with admiration and progressed to curiosity. I started making items that piqued my
curiosity since elementary school, or I began dismantling unneeded equipment around me in
order to discover more about it. With my father's assistance, I built a variety of items ranging
from simple circuits to radios.
In school the subject of mathematics has always been one of my stronger areas of study. I
have always been fascinated by mathematics lessons as a child. Like most children who enjoy
games, I used to think of mathematics as a tough game. I had always enjoy finding a solution
to any mathematical question while the process stress myself when I’m unable to find the
solution, but I have always enjoyed the process of using logic to calculate and figure out the
solution.
As high school approached, I began to delve deeper into robots and mechanical engineering.
As time passed, I also started to learn and develop in an interest in physics, and took several
online courses from EDX like Robotics Foundations I - Robot Modeling and Circuits and
Electronics 1: Basic Circuit Analysis, from which I understood what a robot is and how it
functions.
On the 4th of November, me and my friend would enter a sumo bot competition. We entered
the competition with the expectation of not advancing too far. We somehow manage to get
the first place in the event. Aside from all of that, the most memorable part of the event for
me was not about getting first place and the money (well, maybe it was), but the enjoyment I
experienced while developing and creating the robot itself during and before the tournament
with my friend; that is a memory that will stay with me for a long time.
At my 11th grade, I was elected to become the leader of my scout group. Throughout that
time, however, I planned numerous events such as flag ceremonies and games, and in the
process learned about leadership and what it takes to be a leader. I was also picked to be a
part of my high school band and orchestra, playing the bass and guitar wherever I was
needed. Because I was compelled to practice more frequently, my guitar and bass skills have
substantially improved since then and and they have now become one of my hobbies,
alongside sports like football and basketball, during my spare time.
To this day, my enthusiasm and enjoyment in tinkering with and creating objects persists. I
believe that studying mechatronics is the greatest next step for me, and I chose Fontys
University to pursue that education. I am determined to understand mechanical and robotic
systems meticulously in the mechatronics education program so that I can create, evaluate,
and improve them. I have a strong desire to broaden my knowledge in mechatronics as it is an
incredibly broad subject with several roles that you can inhabit and truly immerse yourself in,
learning not only mechatronics but also electrical and mechanical engineering, which I
particularly fancy to enjoy.
I've decided to apply to Fontys University of Applied Science because I believe it's one of the
greatest places for me to study mechatronics. I visited the Netherlands, which is a gorgeous
and advanced place that will enable me learn and be creative. I have lived in Indonesia my
entire life, I can say that european technology is much ahead of Indonesia's. Thus going to the
Netherlands which has a reputation for being technologically advanced, I have no doubt that I
will learn more about the most recent breakthroughs in mechatronics in the Netherlands.
Aside from that, I’m looking forward for the opportunity to participate in group projects,
particularly those in conjunction with factories (internship).
Last but not least my goal after I graduate is to be able to apply what knowledge and skills
I've gained to benefit people by building and creating things, regardless of where I end up.
Sincerely,
Darrian Darmawan
