G4 Solar Changing Lives

The document describes a project by G4 Solar to provide solar-powered light bulbs to 100 homes beneath a bridge in Cebu, Philippines. The community currently uses dangerous gas lamps and kerosene lamps. The project aims to develop portable solar light bulbs to provide safe and sustainable lighting. Funding of PHP 94,000 will be borrowed at 10% interest over 9 months to purchase the materials. Group members are assigned roles in research, testing, assembly, and project management. The light bulbs will empower the community with off-grid lighting.

G4 Solar Changing Lives

“Illuminating Homes: A Light in Every Corner”

SPECIFIC OUTPUT: To empower Residents by Optimizing Energy Harvesting and
Addressing the Electricity Gap for Homes Under Bridges through Solar-Powered Rechargeable
Bulbs for Sustainable Lighting Solutions.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: One of the most devastating fires in Cebu occurred near the
Mactan Mandaue Bridge, and we can see hundreds of houses without electricity beneath this
magnificent structure. Sitio Paradise in Barangay Looc is a community built beneath the
Mandaue-Mactan bridge, which connects Mactan Island to the Cebu mainland. The Majority of
the community has houses built of stilts. The gas lamp used for lighting at night was one of the
causes of the fire. Since the houses in the area were made of light materials, the flames spread
quickly and destroyed over 250 structures. The "Illuminating Homes" project aims to bring
sustainable lighting solutions to bridge communities, fostering positive change and contributing
to their overall well-being. By combining technology, community engagement, and
environmental consciousness, this initiative seeks to illuminate not just homes but also the
potential for brighter futures within these marginalized communities. To help the families Heal
and Grow in the brightest way possible.
MATHEMATICAL CONCEPT:
To be able to Heal and Grow in the brightest way possible, we need a solar light bulb to give the
marginalized and affected communities. Each house will receive two pieces (2pcs) of the solar
light bulb.
EQUIPMENT:
Solar Light Bulb (100W) - PHP 470
Each house will receive two pieces - PHP 470 × 2 = PHP 940
100 houses will be provided - PHP 940 x 100 = PHP 94,000

To accommodate the expenses of the solar light bulb, we will borrow money worth PHP 94,000
from Albiso's Company since the company is willing to help us achieve our goal to help the
community. Albiso's Company will lend the amount with an interest rate of 10% compounded
monthly payable in nine months.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROJECT:
https://newsinfo.inquirer.net/1697160/700-families-in-cebu-lose-homes-to-fire
Families living under bridges may find solar light bulbs to be extremely useful. Many people in
marginalized communities face difficulties particularly financially. Houses beneath bridges may
not have grid electricity. The best approach for our project is that Solar light bulbs offer a
self-contained, off-grid lighting solution that reduces reliance on centralized power sources.
Conventional lighting sources, such as candles and kerosene lamps, are dangerously flammable.
This risk is eliminated by using solar light bulbs, which contribute to a safer living environment.
As a result, Portable solar light bulbs play an important role in improving the quality of life for
families living beneath bridges by providing affordable, sustainable, and dependable lighting
solutions. They meet practical needs, help to ensure safety and security, and promote
environmental sustainability.

PROCEDURE/EXECUTION:

2
1. Conceptualize and Design: Understand the basic principles of solar power and rechargeable
technology. Outline the bulb's specifications (brightness, battery capacity, etc.).
2. Design the structure of the bulb, considering the integration of solar panels, rechargeable
batteries, LED lights, and a circuit for charging. Gather necessary components like
high-efficiency solar panels, rechargeable batteries, LED lights, wires, and a casing for the bulb.
6. Assembly: Assemble the components according to the design. Connect the solar panels to the
rechargeable batteries via a charge controller to prevent overcharging.
8. Wire the LED lights to the batteries while incorporating an on/off switch for user convenience.
9. Testing and Refinement: Test the prototype under to ensure functionality and efficiency. Make
necessary adjustments or refinements based on the testing results. For instance, optimize the
placement of solar panels for better sunlight absorption or improve the battery capacity for
longer usage.
