Breach Formations and Tactics

This document provides guidelines and tactics for breaching buildings during combat operations. It outlines the standard procedures soldiers are expected to follow, including notifying their team if leaving, limiting unnecessary firing, and following the breaching commander. It then describes the roles and positions in a breach, including pointman, breacher, middlemen, and rearmen. Finally, it details the commands used during a breach and the stack, x, and y formations soldiers are taught to enter buildings in.

Introduction:

Breaching is a common procedure taught by all combat divisions of the

United States Army.

The purpose of breaching varies, however, the main reason for breaching is
to forcefully make entry into a barricaded building of any type.

There are certain methods of breaching. The most common method of

breaching is the X and Y breach.

Breaching guidelines:

During a breach, there is a set of guidelines you must follow during any
kind of breach.

● When going AFK, notify your team before exiting the building. Your
team is expected to continue the breach without you. This applies to
leaving the game as well.
● Prevent blatant communication with your team. Be as discreet as
possible. Use team chat. (This does not apply if you are in a voice
channel)
● Stick with your assigned team - never break up or leave the team
unless instructed to.
● Prevent unneeded discharge - do not fire excessively at an already
dead target.
● Listen to your breaching commander, your team is to follow the
breach commander to whatever area he/she goes into.

The breaching commander (breacher) is expected to be the highest

rank (within the division) at all times.
Breaching Tactics:

Positions:

Pointman - The first man to enter the room; they usually are the first
person to contact the enemy when entering a room;

Breacher - The second man to enter a room; calls commands and leads
their line. The breacher breaks down the door to a room by either shooting
the hinges or doorknob of the door, or by using a c4/other explosive.

Middlemen - Middlemen follow either the breacher or pointman into the

room (depending on which line they are in). They cover the angles that the
breacher and pointman could not cover.

Rearman - The security of the team; they ensure enemies don’t flank the
breach team from behind by watching each door of the room that was last
breached.

Breach Commands:

The commands are as followed;

- “?” - Are you ready?
- “.” - I am ready to breach.
- “-” - Not ready (Reloading weapon, unjamming weapon, etc)
- “!!” - Step away from the door. (Throwing grenade, flashbang, etc)
- “!” - Start the breach; enter.
- “C” or “AC” - Clear or all clear; said when a room is cleared of
enemies.

Formations:
Stack

Stack is usually the formation called BEFORE a room is breached. In stack,

each line (led by either the Pointman or Breacher) will line up on either side
of the door that is about to be broken down. The rearman is always in the
back of these lines.

X Formation

For X formation, both lines essentially form an “X” when breaching the
building. When the command “STACK” is called, the Breacher will line up
horizontally to the Pointman.

Then, a single rear man will line up behind the Breacher’s line and one
behind the Pointman’s line. When the breach is called, the Pointman will
enter the room straight and at a slight slant.

The Breacher will enter at a slant as well, but will cross the other line. The
middlemen will enter the same way as their line leaders (either the breacher
or pointman). The rearman when entering will immediately go to the door
they just breached and watch outside of it to ensure enemies don’t flank the
breach team from behind.

Y Formation

With Y formation, you start with a Stack against the wall. Now, when the
breach is called, the Pointman will enter and immediately go the opposite
direction they entered in at a slant.

The Breacher will then enter with their line and turn the opposite way that
the pointman went. The lines DO NOT CROSS in this formation.
Essentially, both lines form a “Y” shape when breaching
The rearman will watch the door as normal.
