INTRODUCTION TO

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
DEFINITION OF AI

• artificial intelligence is defined as the ability of a digital computer or

computer-controlled robot to perform tasks commonly associated
with intelligent beings. ai is also defined as, an intelligent entity
created by humans capable of performing tasks intelligently without
being explicitly instructed. capable of thinking and acting rationally
and humanely.
HISTORY OF
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

The history of artificial intelligence (AI) began in antiquity, with myths, stories and rumours of artificial
beings endowed with intelligence or consciousness by master craftsmen. The seeds of modern AI were
planted by philosophers who attempted to describe the process of human thinking as the mechanical
manipulation of symbols. This work culminated in the invention of the programmable digital computer
in the 1940s, a machine based on the abstract essence of mathematical reasoning. This device and the
ideas behind it inspired a handful of scientists to begin seriously discussing the possibility of building
an electronic brain. The field of AI research was founded at a workshop held on the campus of
Dartmouth College, USA during the summer of 1956.Those who attended would become the leaders of
AI research for decades. Many of them predicted that a machine as intelligent as a human being would
exist in no more than a generation, and they were given millions of dollars to make this vision come
true.
TYPES OF AI

ARTIFICIAL NARROW ARTIFICIAL GENERAL ARTIFICIAL

INTELLIGENCE : ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE : ARTIFICIAL SUPERINTELLIGENCE :
NARROW INTELLIGENCE (ANI), GENERAL INTELLIGENCE(AGI), ARTIFICIAL
ALSO KNOWN AS NARROW AI ALSO CALLED GENERAL AI OR SUPERINTELLIGENCE (ASI), OR
OR WEAK AI, DESCRIBES AI STRONG AI, DESCRIBES AI SUPER AI, IS THE STUFF OF
TOOLS DESIGNED TO CARRY THAT CAN LEARN, THINK AND SCIENCE FICTION. IT'S
OUT VERY SPECIFIC ACTIONS PERFORM A WIDE RANGE OF THEORIZED THAT ONCE AI
OR COMMANDS. ANI ACTIONS SIMILARLY TO HAS REACHED THE GENERAL
TECHNOLOGIES ARE BUILT TO HUMANS. THE GOAL OF INTELLIGENCE LEVEL, IT WILL
SERVE AND EXCEL IN ONE DESIGNING ARTIFICIAL SOON LEARN AT SUCH A FAST
COGNITIVE CAPABILITY, AND GENERAL INTELLIGENCE IS TO RATE THAT ITS KNOWLEDGE
CANNOT INDEPENDENTLY BE ABLE TO CREATE AND CAPABILITIES WILL
LEARN SKILLS BEYOND ITS MACHINES THAT ARE BECOME STRONGER THAN
DESIGN. CAPABLE OF PERFORMING THAT EVEN OF HUMANKIND.
MULTIFUNCTIONAL TASKS.
MACHINE
LEARNING
Machine learning is a branch of artificial
intelligence (AI) and computer science
which focuses on the use of data and
algorithms to imitate the way that
humans learn, gradually improving its
accuracy. Machine learning is an
important component of the growing
field of data science. Through the use of
statistical methods, algorithms are
trained to make classifications or
predictions, and to uncover key insights
in data mining projects.
DEEP LEARNING

Deep learning is a subset of machine learning, which

is essentially a neural network with three or more
layers. These neural networks attempt to simulate
the behaviour of the human brain albeit far from
matching its ability allowing it to “learn” from large
amounts of data. Deep learning drives many artificial
intelligence (AI) applications and services that
improve automation, performing analytical and
physical tasks without human intervention.
THE FUTURE OF
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

The artificial intelligence (AI) revolution is upon us, and companies must prepare to adapt to this
change. It is important to make an inventory of the current skills within the company to identify which
additional skills the employees need to learn. The company does well in developing an AI strategy to
outline the areas where AI is most effective, whether in a product or a service. Failing to act inevitably
means falling behind. The training should include an introduction to AI, its capabilities, and its
shortcomings (AI is only as good as its training data). This article gives a view of the current state of AI
and what lies ahead.
IMPACT OF AI ON SOCIETY
Positive impacts:
❖ Reduction in Human Error
❖ 24x7 Availability
❖ Medical advancements and personalized treatments
❖ Digital Assistance
❖ New Inventions
Negative impacts:
❖ Job displacement due to automation.
❖ Ethical concerns around decision-making.
❖ High Costs
❖ Unemployment
❖ Make Humans Lazy
ETHICAL CONSIDERATIONS
Bias in AI : AI systems are trained on massive amounts of data, and embedded in that data are societal
biases. Consequently, these biases can become ingrained in AI algorithms, perpetuating and amplifying
unfair or discriminatory outcomes in crucial areas such as hiring, lending, criminal justice, and resource
allocation.
Transparency and Accountability : AI systems often operate in a “black box,” where these systems offer
limited interpretability of how they work and how they arrived at certain decisions. In critical domains like
health care or autonomous vehicles, transparency is vital to ascertain how decisions are made and who
bears responsibility for them.
Creativity and Ownership : When a painter completes a painting, they own it. But when a human creator
generates a piece of digital art by entering a text prompt into an AI system that was programmed by a
separate individual or organization, it’s not so clear. AI systems developed by others, it remains critical that
lawmakers clarify ownership rights and provide guidelines to navigate potential infringements.
CONCLUSION
• “As we navigate the evolving landscape of Artificial Intelligence, it's crucial to balance innovation
with ethical considerations. The journey into AI holds immense potential, and responsible
development will shape a future where intelligent machines enhance our lives. ”AI holds the key to
unlocking a magnificent future where, driven by data and computers that understand our world, we
will all make more informed decisions. These computers of the future will understand not just how
to turn on the switches but why the switches need to be turned on. Although the current state of AI
technology is still far short of the field’s founding aspiration of recreating full human-like intelligence
in machines, research and development teams are leveraging these advances and incorporating
them into society-facing applications.
