GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS:

The question paper is divided into three sections. All the sections are compulsory.

Section A Reading 8 Marks


Section B Writing & Grammar 13 Marks
Section C Literature 19 Marks

SECTION A: READING

I. Read the passages given below and answer the questions that follow.
(1x8= 8 Marks)

Mr. Bhatnagar - I’m an English teacher and have a big family, so I have a very busy
daily routine. First I get up every day at six o’clock, get washed and dressed, leave for
work by seven thirty. I reach school at eight o’clock. I prepare my lessons and then teach
until noon. The other teachers and I always eat lunch and talk together in the teachers
room. I teach again in the afternoon and then correct my students’ homework and tests.
After I get back home, I help my kids with homework. I have three kids in elementary
school. Their names are Rahul, Rohan and Priyanka. Then I do some exercise, eat my
dinner with my family and watch TV before I go to bed at about ten o’clock. We love to
watch travel shows. Finally , I read books on bed before I fall asleep.

Mrs. Jyotsana - Well, I almost always get up early, at about five thirty. I get up early
because I like to go jogging along the beach and watch the sunrise. Later after breakfast,
I go to work. I work in a bank near my home. I don’t drive to work. I take a bus, as it only
takes about twenty minutes to go to work. After work, I like to go to my favourite bakery
and buy some fresh bread. I get home between five o’clock and five thirty. My husband
Michael usually makes dinner because he loves to cook. Infact, he is a chef in a
restaurant. His hobby is growing flowers in our garden. We also have a pet dog called
Wolfie. In the evenings we take Wolfie for a walk, and then get to bed by 09.30 p.m.
Because we need to get up early again the next morning.
Answer the questions :

3. Whose life style attracts you more and why? (1 mark)


4. According to you, who is leading a healthier lifestyle and why? (1 mark)
5. List at least one common thing that you feel is really positive in both the people?
(1 mark)
6. Do you feel that being socially adjustable is a good quality? Give your opinion.
(1 mark)
SECTION B – WRITING AND GRAMMAR

2. Write an application to the Principal of your School asking for Fee Concession for the next
academic session for you. (4 Marks)

Write a letter to your friend inviting him/her on your Birthday Party.

3. Develop the following outlines into readable story with suitable title. (5 Marks)

Two friends- a bear after them---- they were scared----one friend climbs a

It is sometimes said that fire is a good servant but a bad master. It only
means that fire is very useful as long as it is kept under control. For instance,
we use it to cook our food, warm our homes in winter and to generate
electricity. But, on the other hand, if fire gets out of control it can be very
dangerous. Each year thousands of homes and shops are damaged by fire.
Vast areas of forest are also destroyed and hundreds of people are killed or
injured.
