Project Proposal
Introduction

• Hosting a concert titled “Eras in Harmony” celebrating the rich history of


western music showcasing its evolution through various golden eras.

• A musical journey that explores the transition of western music across


different eras, paying tribute to the iconic sounds that have shaped our
musical landscape.

• This event seeks to provide an immersive experience for the audience,


connecting them with the timeless melodies that have defined each golden era.

Objectives
1. Educational components
• Highlighting the significance of each era from Baroque era to the
contemporary musical era.
• Showcase the evolution of musical styles and genres through
compositions which shone in its prime time of their eras.

2. Cultural celebration
• Bring together diverse musical influences to create a harmonious and
inclusive experience.
• Foster an appreciation for the cultural impact of Western music
throughout history.
3. Entertainment
• Offer a captivating and memorable musical performances that engage
the audience.

Event details

• Date
Two days between 4th week of October and 1st week of November 2024
depending on the availability of the venue.
➢ Day 1- On a Friday
➢ Day 2 – On a Saturday

• Time
We expect to host three shows as two shows in Day 1 and another show
on day 2.
➢ Day 1-
• Show 1: 8.00 am to 10.30 am (gathering time included)
• Show 2: 11.00 am to 1.00 pm
➢ Day 2-
• 4.00 pm to 6.00 pm (Open to the public)

• Venue
Peter De Abrew Auditorium

• Duration
An estimated time frame of 2 hours which might be slightly
extended by 15 minutes to 20 minutes. With the time taken to settle
the audience on their respective seats and with slight lengthening of
items by few seconds.

Target Audience

• The student community of Musaeus College will be the main target audience
of the event for the 2 school shows which is to be held in the early hours of
day 1.

• For the public show which will bring light to the evening of the day 2 targets
music enthusiasts of westernized music of all ages, individuals interested in
experiencing the evolution of music firsthand.
Program Outline

• The concert will feature carefully curated performances representing key


golden eras, spanning classical, jazz, rock, pop and contemporary genres.

• Each era will be presented by students ensuring an authentic and engaging


experience.

• The participation in the concert could be further elaborated as follows,


▪ Musaeus College Senior Western Choir
▪ Musaeus College Junior Western Choir
▪ Musaeus College Senior Dancing Troupe
▪ Musaeus College Senior Brass Band
▪ Musaeus College Senior Oriental Orchestra

• Additionally we seek your permission to invite the following students of the


mentioned schools to enlighten the stage and reach to higher success by
engaging their talents as well. The potential schools are as follows,

▪ Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo 08: Senior Western Choir


▪ Royal College, Colombo 07: School Western Choir
▪ St. Joseph’s College, Colombo 10: School Western Choir
▪ Nalanda College, Colombo: School Western Choir
▪ Bishop’s College, Colombo: Western Choir
▪ Ananda College, Colombo 10: Western Orchestra
▪ St. Thomas College, Mount Lavinia: Western Pop Band

• The line up of 16 items is planned with a fair distribution of participation of


the relevant performers in and out school.

Logistics

1. Lighting
• We expect Peter De Abrew Auditorium lighting is effective to be used to
highlight the extravagance of the event.
2. Sounds
• After thorough discussion we have agreed on hiring ‘K sounds’ which
has the ability to provide a quality stage success of the event.
• We expect to receive the following facilities through hiring the above
mentioned organization,
▪ Choral Microphones to highlight the choral beauty of the
participating choirs of every school.
▪ The sound inputs to output the most extravagant instrumental
music which will be capture the hearts and minds of the
audience.
▪ The need to show musical compositions for dancing and other
requirements in a higher quality stage also will be facilitated
through hiring the above organization.

3. Stage Set up
• Dynamic stage design to accommodate various musical styles and
genres.
• A variety of stage arrangements to accommodate orchestras, choirs,
dancing, soloists and other grouped performances.

4. Technical Needs
• The technical requirements of the event could be fulfilled by the conduct
of the auditorium management providing adequate support for live
performances and smooth transitioning throughout the proceeding.

Budget

• A detailed budget covering expenses related to venue rentals, equipment


hiring, marketing and miscellaneous costs is provided below.(estimated)

With the new tax policy it is likely for the above rates to increase therefore after
thorough discussion it has been agreed to raise an amount of LKR 5.5 million.
Funding and Sponsorship

• We plan to generate the revenue by ticket sales and seek sponsorship from
local businesses and music related organizations to support the financial
aspects of the event.

Promotion and Marketing

• The marketing strategy includes online and offline marketing, social-media


campaigns and collaborations with local media outlets.

• It is planned to design posters and videos to attract the target audience


effectively.

• The posters designed are to be shared within the school community in the
means of social media platforms like Whatsapp.

• Further they are to be shared in the school premises to attract the school
community.

Ticketing

• Tickets will be priced competitively starting from Rs. 1500.

• It is proposed to commence an online reservation system for better ticket


selling and we seek permission to proceed with the proposed plan.
• Additionally the usual offline ticket outlets will be within the school premises
and there the reserved tickets will be updated to the website by the host for
maintain the efficiency of the ticket selling procedure.

• Additionally we are eager to hear the suggestions from superiors for the ticket
sale procedure and seek advice for the efficient sales.

Evaluation and Success Metrics

• Success will be measured through audience numbers, audience feedback and


media coverage.

• Post-event surveys will provide insights for future improvements.

Conclusion

• “Eras in Harmony” aims to share knowledge of western music, baroque period
to modern-day as a leading school choir.

• Western classics has the potential to be a game changer for both the school
and the community.

• The event will feature a musical extravaganza creating a memorable


experience that transcends the boundaries of time connecting the audience
with the trans-formative power of music which will provide opportunities for
talented Musaeites to take center stage.

• We seek approval and support to bring this ambitious and culturally enriching
concert to fruition.
