As we all know, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is the umbrella term for all communication
devices. Humans interact with technology in many ways with the use of desktop application, internet browser,
handheld computers, cellphones, and others. Technology serve, assists, and cooperates with humans to
complement enrich normal activities (for example, education, health, communication, services, business, etc.)
with minimal explicit concern or effort on the human part.
The term “multimedia” is used here to refer to the extensive use of images, photographs, sound and
video files, as well as text. In other words, we are concerned here with a variety of formats in which can access,
understand, process and express knowledge.
Objectives
At the end of this lesson, you are expected to:
1. Explore the principles of interactivity and rich content in the text of Web 2.0 and participation of
the user in the online experience
2. Share anecdotes of how he/she has used ICTs to be part of a social movement, change, or cause
to illustrate aspects of digital citizenships
3. Define Multimedia and how it affects our daily life and to know the different uses of multimedia
in various field; and
4. Identify the types and the elements of Multimedia in ICT.

Discussion
MULTIMEDIA – Is a combination of text, animated graphics, video and sound delivered to you via electronic
means. It is what appeals to users for entertainment, learning and research.
- Primary characteristics of a multimedia system is the use of more than one kind of medium
to deliver content and functionality.

- Entertainment industries produce computer games and develop animations or special effects
for cartoons and movies.
The advanced use of multimedia is what we call virtual reality. VR is a combination of video, stereo
and computer graphics that attempts to create an interactive 3- dimensional environment.
