Daily Learning Plan

I. Objectives
1. Improve learners’ vocabulary through learning new words.
2. Read a variety of reading materials silently.
3. Develop learners’ understanding of the materials read.
II. Subject Matter
A. Content: DEAR – Drop Everything and Read
B. Reference: DO Memorandum No. 001 s. 2024
C. Material: flashcards, stories
III. Procedure

A. Pre-Reading

1. Word of the Day:


Begin the day by introducing a "Word of the Day." Write the word
on the whiteboard and discuss its meaning with the students.
Encourage them to use the word in a sentence.
2. Vocabulary Introduction:
Introduce 3-5 new vocabulary words from the reading materials.
Show vocabulary cards with the word, its pronunciation, and a
simple definition. Discuss the meaning and provide example
sentences.
3. Story Preview:
Show the cover or a picture from the reading material and ask
students to make predictions about the story or topic. What do
they think the story is about?
4. Discussion Questions:
Present 2-3 discussion questions related to the reading material to
spark curiosity and activate prior knowledge.

B. During Reading
1. Silent Reading:
Give each student a copy of the reading material and encourage
them to read it silently for a set period (15-20 minutes). Remind
them to use context clues to understand new words.

Pair up students, if possible, to discuss the material as they read.
This can help struggling readers and provide an opportunity for
peer interaction.
3. Word Hunt:
While reading, have students look for and underline or highlight
the vocabulary words introduced earlier. They should try to
identify the words in context.
4. Teacher-Guided Reading:
Read a portion of the material aloud to the class, modeling good
reading fluency and comprehension. Pause to discuss the content,
ask questions, and clarify any difficulties.

C. Post Reading (Activities)


1. Answering comprehension questions from the story read.
2. Identifying basic elements of the story.
3. Draw your favorite part of the story. Show and explain it in class.
4. Journal Writing
5. Let the learners express what they learned or felt from the story.

Closing:

Recap the day's activities and emphasize the importance of reading and
expanding vocabulary. Encourage students to continue reading at home and
exploring new words.
