Assignment: Yearbook Photo Editing in Photoshop

Photoshop Photo Editing

Due Date: October 13th

Objective: To demonstrate your proficiency in using Photoshop for photo editing,

specifically in the context of yearbook photography. This assignment will evaluate your
ability to apply editing techniques, utilize non-destructive adjustment layers, showcase
creativity, and maintain image clarity without pixelation.

Instructions:
1. Photo Selection (Due October 6th)
Choose two yearbook photos that you will edit to enhance their visual appeal and
overall quality. The selected photos should be relevant to your assigned yearbook
section (e.g., sports, clubs, academics).

2. Editing Techniques (Due October 13th)

For each of the two selected photos, apply the following editing techniques using
Photoshop.

Photoshop:
a. Color Correction: Adjust the colors to make them vibrant and accurate while
maintaining a natural look. Correct any color casts or temperature issues.
b. Exposure and Contrast: Fine-tune the exposure and contrast to ensure the photo is
well-lit and has a balanced range of tones.
c. Cropping and Composition: Crop and compose the photo to highlight the main
subject or focus of the image. Ensure proper framing.
d. Retouching: Use the retouching tools to remove any distracting elements or
imperfections in the photo (e.g., blemishes, stray hairs, or dust spots).
e. Creative Enhancement: Add creative effects or enhancements that are relevant to the
photo's context. This could include selective color adjustments, vignettes, or other
artistic touches.

3. Non-Destructive Adjustment Layers

● Utilize non-destructive adjustment layers for each editing step. This ensures that
the original photo remains intact, and changes can be adjusted or reverted
without loss of quality.
4. Creativity (1)
● Show creativity in your editing choices while keeping the yearbook's overall
aesthetic in mind. Your edits should enhance the photo's visual appeal and
storytelling.
5. Non-Pixelated Image/Clarity (1)
● Ensure that your edited photos maintain clarity and do not become pixelated or
blurry. Pay attention to resizing and resolution adjustments to preserve image
quality.
6. Submission Guidelines:
● Please be sure to upload the two original photos along with the two edited
photos
● Save your edited photos in high-resolution format (e.g., PSD, JPEG or TIFF) with
a resolution suitable for print.

● Include a brief explanation of the editing techniques used for each photo.

● Submit your edited photos and explanations to your instructor by email or

through the designated file-sharing platform by October 13th.

Note: Late submissions will be subject to a deduction of 1% per day. Ensure that your
edits enhance the yearbook photos while maintaining their visual quality and relevance.
