Intranet & IT Self Service Portal
The Remote Access VPN Service allows you to connect your laptop to access SOCOTEC
resources. By connecting to the VPN you are protecting your data by working in a secure and
encrypted environment.
How to use the Remote access VPN
An application will be installed on your computers called “Pulse Secure”. The application can be
launched via the start menu, Desktop Shortcut or from the Pinned Task Bar Icon.
Once you have loaded the application the default connection will be SOCOTEC VPN clicking
the Connect Button will establish a connection to the VPN.

The next step is to select the relevant realm to authenticate to, select “BYL” and save Settings.
You will now be presented with a prompt to enter your credentials. The credentials required are
your current domain/network credentials in the format: “firstname.lastname”. Once you have
entered your credentials click the Save Setting then “Connect” button.

The application will then go through a series of checks to ensure your machine is compliant
before connecting
Now that you have successfully connected to the Remote Access VPN, you will have access to
internal systems and services. Once you have completed your session, it is important to ensure
that you disconnect from the VPN Service. This can be achieved by clicking the disconnect
button from within the “Pulse Secure” application or right clicking the “Pulse Secure” icon within
the system tray
“SOCOTEC VPN” > “Disconnect”.

To connect to the HR self-Service Portal you will need to connect to the SOCOTEC VPN in
the first instance.
The link to the HR Self Service Portal can be found Here (full address is:
https://hrportal.esgl.co.uk/) you must ensure that .esgl.co.uk part of the address is included in
order to connect
The Log in for the HR portal is set differently to keep all your personal Data secure.
The Username will be your Payroll number (sometimes referred to as employee number
found on your payslip).
The Password will be set to National Insurance Number (unless advise otherwise).
This is where you will be able to self serve and manage your annual leave and personal
details.
Line managers – this is where you will be able to view your teams and approve annual leave
and manage absences
As of January 2022 all employees should ONLY book and manage leave using the HR
self service portal (civica)

To connect to the SOCOTEC Intranet you will need to connect to the SOCOTEC VPN in the
first instance, once connected you can access the Intranet by the following the link HERE
(the full address is http://intranet.esgl.co.uk/default.aspx) you must ensure that .esgl.co.uk is
included in order to connect
When you load the intranet while on the VPN you may be presented with a log on screen like
the below, enter your logon details as:
BUTLERYOUNG\logon name (this is your PC logon name) and network password to access.

When in the HR page use the Links at the bottom of the page to access useful links such as the
HR Self Service Portal, Benefits or the HR Polices and documents.

The primary route is to utilise the IT service portal where you can manage your query from start
to resolution

The FIRST TIME logging into the IT Service Portal you will be presented with an area to enter
your email address this will be your BYL or Trenton fire email address. This will take you to a
SSO (single sign on) page to enter your network password. (you will not have to do this going
forward)

We have Multi Factor Authentication turned on to increase security select a method to receive a
code.
When you are logged in you can submit a new request by choosing a category for example
common requests shows a list of the most requested tickets. Try and choose what fits your
request best.
