LEARNING ACTIVITY SHEET
Identifying the Symbols of Technical Drawing
Background Information
On the past lesson we were able to discuss on the capacity and limits of a certain
storage device by calculating and measuring the storage properties. Now we will be going
further on how these data and information are being planned and process by identifying the
basic function of computer algorithm. In this lesson you’ll be able identify various kinds of
technical drawings that is related on the algorithm of computer.

Flowchart is a diagram that depicts the nature and flow of a process using
graphic symbols. This tool is also known as a "flow diagram."
A flowchart is an excellent tool for visualizing a complex process for your team.
A flowchart can be created using over 30 standardized symbols. These symbols can
represent anything from a process to a document or a set of decisions that must be
made. This article will teach you what the various forms signify, when a flowchart
might be useful, and what types of flowcharts you can use at work.

Objective
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to identify the different symbols
and types of technical drawing (Quarter 2; Week 3)
Flowchart and Its Elements
A flowchart is a diagram that depicts a process's or workflow's steps, sequences, and
decisions. While there are many various forms of flowcharts, the most fundamental form of a
process map is a basic flowchart.
What Are the Flowchart Elements?
Systems analysts frequently use flowcharts to visualize a set of processes in a system
of business. A flowchart is a useful tool for designing an effective business system debug
and enhance an existing system A flowchart is made up of pieces such as the Terminator,
process, subprocess, decision, arrow lines, and connections are all examples of terminators.

Activity 1. Identfying Flowchart Elements. Direction: Match Column A with the

meanings on the Column B. Write your answer on your answer sheets

B. It is represented by a small rectangle
2) Process with curved corners that appears at the
start and at the end of a flowchart

C. It is represented by a rectangle with

3) Sub-Process double lines on each side. It is a major
process that could be broken up into
simpler processes developed into
another flowchart.

4.) Decision D. Represented by a small circle or a

connector box and is labeled using
letters. A flowchart written on a single
page is clearer than a flowchart on
several pages. It ensures that the
processes are connected logically and
correctly on several
pages.

5) Connector E. Represented by a diamond. A process

that can answer a decision of "yes" or
"no" requires a decision box.

6) Arrow Lines F. It is represented by a rectangle and

refers to an action in a business
process. It must be described clearly
and concisely. It can be described using
a single verbnoun phrase; for example,
"Order Office Supplies."

When should we use of flowcharts as group?

An as-is flowchart assists your team at the start of your process improvement
initiatives and everyone involved in the process to comprehend how it now operates the crew
may discover. It's useful to compare this flowchart as-is with a diagram of how the process is
supposed to work. To go to work Later, the team will create another flowchart of the updated
process to document how it works. Your team may want to construct an ideal flowchart at
some point to demonstrate how you would like the process to be carried out in the end
Benefits of Using Flowcharts
1. Promote understanding of a process.
People may have differing ideas about how a process works. A flowchart can help you
gain agreement about the sequence of steps. Flowcharts promote understanding in a way that
written procedures cannot do. One good flowchart can replace pages of words.
2. Provide a tool for training employees.
2
Page

Because of the way they visually lay out the sequence of process steps, flowcharts can
be very helpful in training employees to perform the process according to standardized
procedures.
3. Identify problem areas and opportunities for process improvement.
Activity 2. Advantages of using Flowchart diagrams. Direction: Give at least three
importance of using Flowchart and explain briefly(15 marks)

Basic Flowchart Symbols
The symbols that are commonly used in flowcharts have specific meanings and are
connected by arrows indicating the flow from one step to another.
Once you grasp what the symbols represent, you can read or create pretty much any
form of flowchart and obtain a greater knowledge of the represented process. When creating
a flowchart that requires diverse forms or symbols, provide a legend so that your teammates
can still access it.

Activity 3. Flowchart Symbols. Direction: Given the statements below, draw the correct

Types of flowcharts (According to M.A. Fryman)

Flowcharts are utilized in a variety of sectors and industries since they are such a
strong tool. Flowcharts can be found almost anywhere, including education, sales &
marketing, business, engineering, and manufacturing.
1. A decision flowchart aids in explaining the actions necessary to justify a choice. This
style of flowchart can be useful in predicting the outcomes of certain decisions.
2. A logic flowchart is used to identify process loopholes, bottlenecks, or constraints
that could create interruptions or issues.
3. A system flowchart depicts the flow of data in a system. They are frequently utilized
in the accounting industry.
4. A product flowchart depicts the product creation process and sequence of events.
This type of flowchart might be useful documentation when launching a new product
or optimizing the manufacturing process.
5. A process flowchart depicts how a procedure will result in a specific output. You will
most likely construct a process flowchart to improve an existing process or to start one
from scratch. A swimlane diagram is an example of a process flowchart.

Creating Flowchart
Whether you jot a flowchart in your notebook or use a flowchart template to plan out
an official procedure, there are five steps to creating a coherent and useful flowchart.
1. Identify the goal and scope of the Project
2. Put your tasks in chronological order. Before creating your first flowchart draft, it may
be useful to make a list of some of the processes.
3. Organize your tasks by type and flowchart symbol. Once you've written down and
sorted all of your tasks chronologically, assign them to their associated symbol so
you're ready to construct your flowchart.
4. Draw your flowchart.
5. Confirm and refine your flowchart. Having a second, third, or even fourth set of eyes
look over your flowchart will help you identify bottlenecks or potential difficulties and
allow you to fine-tune the flowchart before the process begins.

Activity 4. Question and Answer. Answer the following questions comprehensively. Write
you answer on your answer sheet.(10 marks)
1. Why is it important to initially define the objective and goal of a project? Explain.
