A. Sobre la Indolencia de los Filipinos

Sobre La Indolencia de los Filipinos (The Indolence of the Filipinos) is
an exploratory essay written by Philippine national hero Dr. Jose Rizal,
to explain the alleged “laziness” of the Filipinos during the Spanish
regime. It was published in the periodical La Solidaridad (the official
newspaper of the Propaganda Movement in Spain) in five installments,
from July 15-September 15, 1890. This essay was Rizal’s response to
Presentation the Spanish accusation of indios or Filipinos’ indolence and a
continuation of Rizal's campaign for education in which he believed the
key to solve the different issues that the Philippines was facing.

B. The Intimate Alliance Between Religion and Good Education

The Intimate Alliance Between Religion and Good Education is a four-
stanza poem that correlates religion to education, written by Jose Rizal
in April 1876 before entering his fifth year in Ateneo Municipal. It
emphasized and expressed his belief that education and religion are
two inseparable concepts. Below is the full text of the poem.
C. My First Inspiration
Mi Primera Inspiracion, commonly known in English as “My First
Inspiration”, was the first poem written by Jose Rizal during his time
in Ateneo. This was written in honor of his mother as reflected in its
poetic verses which show his eternal love and appreciation for his
mother. Also, the poem teaches us that “our mother should be our
first inspiration as our mother is the one who bears us and gives us
the support from the very beginning” (Jose Rizal’s Poems and
Writings, 2017).

D. Through Education Our Motherland Receives Light

Through Education Our Motherland Receives Light (Por la Educacion
Recibe Lustre la Patria) is a poem written by Rizal on the 1 st of
April, 1876 in Ateneo. It emphasizes education as a torch lighting
the darkness or the morning sun casting out the shadows over a
land. This work of Rizal proved that he valued education so much.
He strongly believed that education is a powerful tool or being
capable of changing a person and a nation. He further believed that
education could help us cure and survive from any forces in the
struggles of societal freedom.

E. Mi Ultimo Adios
My Last Farewell or Mi Ultimo Adios was a poem originally untitled
and unsigned, written by Jose Rizal before his execution in the 30 th
of December, 1896 which expresses his patriotic goodbyes to his
motherland and to all the people he loved and cared for. In this
literary piece of Rizal, he also expressed his willingness to die for
the country for he believed that offering his life was the best way to
show his love for the Philippines.
