• A collective noun is the name of a group of
persons or things taken together as one.

E. g.
a fleet of ships
a bundle of sticks
a flock of birds

4) Abstract Noun

Nouns that name things which are not concrete (cannot


see or touch .

Naming words for intangible things like feelings, ideas,


concepts and qualities.

E.g.:
Happiness, Kindness, Bravery, Freedom, Hope, Justice.
Types of Nouns
5) Material Noun

• A material noun is the name of a material of


which a thing is made of.
• It refers to a substance which may be a liquid or
solid.
• It is always singular

E.g.: Wood, Glass, Cement, Gold


Some Material Nouns
• Material nouns from nature: water, air, silver,
gold, iron, copper, sand, coal, rock, sunlight, rain,
earth, salt, etc.
• Material nouns from animals: egg, meat, honey,
milk, silk, leather, wool, etc.
• Material nouns from plants: cotton, food, oil,
wood, jute, coffee, medicine, tea, rubber,
perfume, etc.
• Man made material nouns: acid, alcohol, asphalt,
brick, cement, butter, chalk, ghee, cheese, ebony,
enamel, felt, gelatin, paraffin, cloth, etc.
