 Traits related to getting along with others
o Characteristics include warm, easygoing, compassionate, friendly and sociable

o Individuals typically are sociable, and have lots of friends

ADJUSTABLE
 Traits elated to emotional stability
o The fine line between stable and unstable

o Stable is being calm, good under pressure, relaxed and secure

o Unstable is nervous, poor under pressure and insecure

CONSCIENTIOUSNESS
 Includes traits related to achievement
o Traits include high credibility, conformity and organization

o Individuals typically work hard and put in extra time and effort to meet goals

OPENNESS TO EXPERIENCE
 Traits related to being willing to change and try new things
o Individuals typically are willing to take calculated risks

TYPES OF MOTIVATION
Two Main Categories of Motivation
1. Intrinsic Motivation
Intrinsic motivation is a type of motivation in which an individual is being motivated by internal
desires
2. Extrinsic Motivation
Extrinsic motivation, on the other hand, is a type of motivation in which an individual is being
motivated by external desires
MASLOW’S HIERARCHY OF NEEDS
Morality, creativity, spontaneity, problem solving, lack of prejudice,
acceptance of others
Self-esteem, confidence, achievement, respect of others, respect by others
Friendship, family, sex, all intimacy
Security of body, of employment, of resources, of morality, of the family, of healt
of property
Breathing, food, water, sex, sleep, homeostasis, excretion

1. PHYSIOLOGICAL- these needs must be met in order for a person to survive, such as food,
water and shelter
2. SAFETY – including personal and financial security and health and well being
3. LOVE/BELONGING – the need for friendship, relationships and family
4. ESTEEM – the need to feel confident and be respected by others
5. SELF-ACTUALIZATION – the desire to achieve everything you possibly can and become
the most that you can be

environment with the goal of avoiding problems before they rise.

How do you handle yourself in unexpected or uncomfortable situation? An effective leader will
adapt to new surroundings and situation- must do his/her best to adapt.
3. RESPECTFUL
Treating others with respect, even if you have the higher position in an organization. “If you
want to earn it, give it”.
