THE PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.
WARNING : MAKE SURE THAT THE LANDING GEAR GROUND SAFETIES AND THE WHEEL CHOCKS
ARE IN POSITION.
WARNING : DO NOT DO AN ENGINE RUN-UP WITH THE THRUST REVERSER COWLS OPEN. DO NOT
DO AN ENGINE RUN-UP WITH THE FAN COWLS OPEN AND SAFETIED BY THE
HOLD-OPEN ROD IF YOU OPERATE THE ENGINE AT POWER HIGHER THAN IDLE.
WARNING : - ENGINE OPERATION MUST NOT EXCEED MINIMUM IDLE WHEN PERSONNEL ARE IN
ENTRY/EXIT CORRIDOR.
- POSITIVE COMMUNICATION BETWEEN THE FLIGHT COMPARTMENT AND PERSONNEL
IN ENTRY EXIT CORRIDOR IS NECESSARY.
- INLET AND EXHAUST HAZARD AREAS MUST BE STRICTLY OBSERVED BY
PERSONNEL IN ENTRY/EXIT CORRIDOR.
WARNING : MAKE SURE THAT:
- THE PASSENGER DOORS ARE CLOSED AND THE PASSENGER LOADING STAIRS
ARE REMOVED WHEN AT LEAST ONE ENGINE IS OPERATED ABOVE IDLE POWER.
- THE CARGO DOORS ARE CLOSED AND CARGO LOADING EQUIPMENT IS
REMOVED WHEN:
. ENGINE 2 IS OPERATED AT IDLE OR ABOVE
. AT LEAST ONE ENGINE IS OPERATED ABOVE IDLE POWER
IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THESE PRECAUTIONS INJURY TO THE PERSONNEL AND
DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT AND/OR EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
CAUTION : MAKE SURE THAT FOR THE ENGINE GROUND RUN TEST :
- THE AIRCRAFT IS IN A CLEAR AREA SPECIFIED FOR ENGINE GROUND RUN
WITH NO OBSTACLE NEARER THAN 50 METERS (164 FT.) IN FRONT OF THE
AIRCRAFT.
- THE AIRCRAFT IS STOPPED AND CANNOT MOVE DURING THE ENGINE GROUND
RUN. IF DURING THE ENGINE GROUND RUN TEST THE AIRCRAFT DOES START TO
MOVE FORWARD :
- DECREASE THE ENGINE THRUST IMMEDIATELY,
- STOP THE AIRCRAFT WITH THE PARKING BRAKE.
CAUTION : - SEE THE APPLICABLE FIGURE FOR WIND LIMIT RESTRICTIONS WHEN THE ENGINE

THE DANGEROUS AREA.
- DO NOT GO ABOVE OPEN COWLING LIMITATIONS WHEN YOU DO THE TESTS.
- THE OPERATOR MUST FULLY KNOW ALL THE OPERATING LIMITS AND
PROCEDURES BEFORE ENGINE OPERATES.
CAUTION : OPERATION AT MINIMUM IDLE IN ICING CONDITIONS IS PERMITTED FOR EXTENDED
PERIODS. IF THE CONDITION CONTINUES FOR MORE THAN 30 MINUTES , OR IF
IMPORTANT ENGINE VIBRATION OCCURS; YOU MUST INCREASE THE ENGINE SPEED TO
70 PERCENT N1 MINIMUM FOR APPROXIMATELY 15 SECONDS BEFORE YOU SELECT A
HIGHER THRUST OPERATION.
CAUTION : MAKE SURE THAT THERE IS NO HYDRAULIC GROUND POWER SUPPLY CONNECTED TO
THE AIRCRAFT WHEN YOU DO THIS PROCEDURE. IF A GROUND POWER SUPPLY IS
CONNECTED, THERE IS A RISK OF DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE PUMPS.

NOTE : Any time a measurable quantity of fuel is used by Maintenance while

performing engine run-up or taxi, Maintenance Personnel must record
current fuel and oil quantities in the A/C Logbook. At turnover of an
aircraft to operations (i.e., delivery of an aircraft to the gate), record
current quantities on the back of the last used white log page in the
appropriate columns using cockpit fuel and oil quantity indicator readings
(if available). Entries will be made in pounds and whole quart increments
respectively. If any indicator is inoperative, enter "INOP" in the
appropriate column. Maintenance personnel must then enter "MAINT" in the
"FLT" column, and record date, time, and station data as appropriate.

4. Procedure
Subtask 71-00-00-710-15000-001
A. Do this test:
WARNING : AFTER AN ABORT OF THE ENGINE STARTING SEQUENCE, ALWAYS PUT THE
"ENG/MASTER" SWITCH BACK IN THE "OFF" POSITION.
IF YOU ONLY CHANGE THE POSITION OF THE ENGINE MODE SELECTOR SWITCH
(FROM "IGN/START" TO "NORM"), THE FADEC SYSTEM WILL NOT COMPLETE THE
ABORT. THERE IS THUS A RISK THAT THE ENGINE WILL START. THIS CAN CAUSE
INJURIES TO PERSONS.

CAUTION : DO NOT OPERATE THE ENGINE IF THE FUEL INLET PRESSURE IS NOT POSITIVE
(THE FUEL IS NECESSARY TO LUBRICATE THE ENGINE FUEL PUMP AND THE HMU
AND THUS PREVENT DAMAGE).

CAUTION : MONITOR THE START CYCLE VERY CAREFULLY WHEN THE STARTER AIR INLET
PRESSURE IS LOWER THAN RECOMMENDED (SPECIAL OPERATION CONDITIONS).
THIS CAN CAUSE LONGER TIMES TO GO TO IDLE AND HIGHER EGT PEAKS.
ACTION RESULT
1.On the ENG panel 115VU: On the lower ECAM display unit:
- Set the - The ENGINE page comes into view.
ENG/MODE/CRANK/NORM/IGN/START Make sure that:
selector switch to IGN/START. - The air pressure is between 25 psi
(1.7 bar) and 55 psi (3.8 bar).
- The oil quantity is correct.
If necessary, fill the oil tank
(Ref. TASK 12-13-79-610-001).
NOTE : The oil level in the oil tank can go down by 1.6 US gal (6 L) during
start.
2. On the center pedestal, on the On the lower ECAM display unit, on
the ENG panel 115VU: ENGINE page:
- Set the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control - The symbol for the starter
valve switch to ON. opens.
On the upper ECAM display unit: - At approximately 16 percent N2, the A
- Monitor the important or B indication comes into view
below parameters N1, N2, EGT, FF. IGN.
On the lower ECAM display unit: - At 50 percent N2:
- Monitor the oil pressure. The symbol for the starter valve is
in the closed position.
The A or B indication goes out of
view.

(CFMI) 71-00-00-501 POWER PLANT - GENERAL - ADJUSTMENT/TEST

NOTE : When the pack valves start to close the FAULT legend of the AIR COND
PACK 1/2 pushbutton switches on the AIR COND panel 30VU come on until
the pack valves are fully closed.
NOTE : The engine operates at a stabilized ground idle only when there is a
positive oil pressure indication.
High oil pressure peaks can occur in cold weather because of high oil
viscosity. The pressure decreases as the temperature of the oil
increases.
Ignition automatically starts at 16 percent N2 and the fuel
automatically starts at 22 percent N2. The starter and the ignition
automatically stop at approximately 50 percent N2.
Engine light-off usually occurs at approximately 10 seconds after
you beginning of the start attempt (starter shutoff valve open) and
within 2-3 seconds after the FADEC reflects the fuel on.
If the engine light-off does not occur within 10 seconds (15
seconds for extreme cold conditions), the FADEC system
automatically stops the ignition, the fuel flow, and dry motors the
engine for 30 seconds.
Twenty-five (25) seconds into the dry motoring time, the FADEC
systems energizes the two igniters and at 30 seconds, selects
the fuel to on.
If when you tried to start the engine for the second time there is
no light-off within 10 seconds (15 seconds for extreme cold
conditions), the FADEC system automatically stops the two igniters,
the fuel flow and the starter. There is a dry motoring of the
engine during after which the FADEC system will select a start
abort. This will cause a start abort indication to come on on the
upper ECAM display unit.
If this occurs, on the ENG panel 115VU:
- Set the ENG/MODE/CRANK/NORM/IGN/START selector switch to NORM.
- Set the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch to OFF.
- After the starter is cool, the operator must make a decision:
try another auto or manual start or stop and correct the
problem.
3. When the engine idle speed is
stable, on the ENG panel
115VU:
- Set the
ENG/MODE/CRANK/NORM/IGN/START
selector switch to NORM.
NOTE : It is recommended that the engine operates at or near idle for a
minimum of 2 minutes before you increase to high power. You must move
the throttle control lever, slowly, carefully and smoothly when
possible.
NOTE : You can use taxi time at or near idle as part of the 2 minute warm-up
time.

5. Close-up
Subtask 71-00-00-869-23200-001
A. At the end of the test stop the engine(s) (Ref. TASK 71-00-00-710-028).
(1) On the overhead CTL & IND panel 25VU:
(a) Set the EXT LT/BEACON switch to OFF
(2) Stop the pneumatic supply to the aircraft:
(3) Disconnect the HP ground power unit or stop the APU.
(4) Do the EIS stop procedure (Ref. TASK 31-60-00-860-002).
