Shifting Tool
Shifting Tool
The B Shifting tool is used to selectively lock and shift up or down the sliding
door sleeve. This is accomplished by the tool keys which engage the SSD
inner sleeves.
Operation
Install desired keys and attach to the tool string and lower into wellbore to
desired depth.
Locate into SSD by either passing through and pulling back up into SSD to
locate in the shifting profile for a up to open sleeve, jar up to begin
equalization and shift open SSD.
For a jar down to open, simply set down into sleeve to locate the shifting
profile, jar down to begin equalization and shift open. Remove tool string from
wellbore.
Purpose
The D-2 Shifting tool is designed to shift baker style L sliding sleeves. Collets
come in different OD measurements and each sleeve ID will require a
corresponding collet with a larger OD.
The purpose of the collet is to locate the sleeve desired to be shifted. The tool
can then be extended allowing the spring loaded dogs to move outward
latching the inner sleeve for shifting.
The collet design allows locating and shifting any desired sleeve in a
completion with two or more sleeves.
The selective collet feature includes both the opening and closing L sleeves.
The tool requires a specific distance from the square face of the shifting dog
to the collet locating profile. This measurement is done with the tool in the
retracted position and allows for the shifting tool to disengage the sleeve when
the shifting sequence is complete.
Although the shifting tool can be deliberately released three steel shear pins
are incorporated at the base of the shifting dogs allowing for a safety release
feature.
B-type self-release positioning tool, used to place the A and X-type closed sliding sleeves in the
open or closed position.
B-type self-release positioning tool, which can shift XA, RA, XO, XD, A, C, CB, WB, L and CM-type
sliding sleeves.
The selection key can be used as a non-self-release type but released by a shear pin.
B-type self-release tools cannot pass through the first S-type seating joint.
The B Shifting Tool is designed to selectively locate and shift most sliding sleeves. This
is accomplished by the Shifting Tool keys engaging the sliding sleeve insert and
depending on the direction the tool is run, up or down, the sleeve is shifted. The B
shifting tool is used to locate and either open or close a sliding sleeve.
The B type shifting tool open or close a desired sliding side sleeve by simply deploying
the tools with the keys facing upwards to shift the inner sleeve upwards, or downwards to
shift the inner sleeve downwards.
The selective keys allow the Shifting Tool to perform an unlimited number of shifting
operations of a given type without coming out of the well. The shear release keys, on the
other hand, can only perform one opening operation after which the tool must be brought
back to the surface for redress
