Completing Your Assignment

Task 1 – Data collection and applying graphical – tabular descriptive techniques.
Vocational scenario: The COVID-19 pandemic has dramatically impacted the service industry. As its effects
prolong: lock-down periods and international & local restrictions on movement have led to a huge drop in
revenues and a situation of emergency due to financial difficulties. However, throughout the pandemic, businesses
have proven to be incredibly resilient. This adaptability offers a blueprint for the future and gives hope that the
businesses that have survived during the pandemic, and those that follow, will emerge stronger.
As a Research Intern at ABC Consulting – a well-known provider of research and consulting solutions for service
businesses in Vietnam, you have been asked by your line manager to conduct a research into post pandemic
business recovery. The specific research topic has been left to you to decide. The range of topics discussed could
cover the following:
• What does successful business recovery look like? What is the “new normal”
• Response, recovery, and resilience, how businesses are getting back to business
• Recovery strategies in the hotel/F&B/service industry
• The impact of vaccination rates on the road to recovery for the Hospitality/F&B/Service sector
• Staff recruitment and retention issues facing the Hospitality/F&B/Service industry in the post-pandemic
phase
What am I required to do in Task 1?
You are required to carry out the data collection coursework (group work) and describe those primary data
(individual work).

1. Choose your own topic. Define your research problem or question. This can be stated as a
research question, objective or hypothesis
2. Design a questionnaire to collect data from a random sample
3. Apply graphical and tabular techniques to describe your own primary data

Task 2 – Data analysis and make recommendations

The scenario 1: (File data “Scenario 1 - Final Assignment”)

The marketing manager for a chain of hardware stores needed more information about the effectiveness of the
three types of advertising that the chain used. These are localized direct mailing (in which flyers describing sales
and featured products are distributed to homes in the area surrounding a store), newspaper advertising, and local
television advertisements. To determine which type is most effective, the manager collected 1 week’s data from
100 randomly selected stores. For each store, the following variables were recorded:
• Weekly gross sales
• Weekly expenditures on direct mailing
• Weekly expenditures on newspaper advertising
• Weekly expenditures on television commercials
• All variables were recorded in thousands of dollars.
The scenario 2: (File data “Scenario 2 - Final Assignment”)
One critical factor that determines the success of a catalog store chain is the availability of products that
consumers want to buy. If a store is sold out, future sales to that customer are less likely. Accordingly, delivery
trucks operating from a central warehouse regularly resupply stores. In an analysis of a chain’s operations, the
general manager wanted to determine the factors that are related to how long it takes to unload delivery trucks. A
random sample of 50 deliveries to one store was observed. The times (in minutes) to unload the truck, the total
number of boxes, and the total weight (in hundreds of pounds) of the boxes were recorded.
What am I required to do in Task 2?
You are required to write a report in which you will make recommendations for business actions based on your
analysis of data through 2 scenarios above.

1. Develop a regression model.

2. Compute the mean, standard deviation, minimum, maximum of these data (put them in the
descriptive statistics table), and then interpret the results.
3. Compute the coefficient of correlation and create a table of correlation matrix.
4. Use Excel to produce the statistics in the regression model. Determine the regression equation
and analyze the data using multiple regression
5. Make recommendations for business actions based on your data analysis

Additional Guidance

1. Presentation and structure – to achieve an excellent grade, your presentation also should be excellent – This
report should be written in a concise, formal style using 1.5 spacing and font size 12. This includes numbering
tables, referencing correctly etc. Do not present a lot of data and information in tables as appendices. Data or
statistics that refer directly to your discussion in the main body, should be presented in the main body. Tables
and figures – tables and figures need to be numbered and each should have a title that is self-explanatory. Your
analytical content must be high, demonstrating critical thinking and the ability to apply relevant project
management concepts
2. Word limit – 5,000 words. This will exclude your references in the executive summary, reference list, title page,
table of contents and the appendices. Please, note that your cover page must have your Full Name, ID Number,
class, faculty, course name and word count)
3. References must be followed Havard style.
4. Poor spelling, punctuation and presentation will be penalised.
5. The individual final assignment must be submitted electronically (file word only) to the instructor – Nguyen

3.2. Task 1
3.3. Task 2 – Scenario 1

4. References: Use appropriate references, mix of academic and non-academic sources, make sure they actually
support argument rather than just ones that appear to be credible.
5. Appendix: Add all summary output results calculated from Excel in Appendix
