1. SUMMARY
This document contains a detailed description of the following Power Distribution
Monitoring Objects:
·CircuitBreaker
·CircuitBreakerABBREF542Plus
·ABB_REF542Plus_IntCtrl
·MOT1REF542Plus
·PFCCtrl

2. COMMON DATA

2.1 BASIC DESCRIPTION

The Power Distribution Monitoring objects provide access and control for supervision and
control of power distribution equipment such as switchgear, and protection relays using
serial connectivity (e.g. Profibus or Modbus).
The objects are designed as composite control modules containing one module for the
communication. This module can be modified to adapt to the requirements of the
equipment.

All Power Distribution Monitoring objects have the following common basic functions:
· Manual control from the Operator Station (via the faceplate)
· Local control from Electrical Panel in the E-Room
· Detailed status, alarm and interlock indication on the Operator Station
· Single Line Display Graphic Elements
· Faceplates
· Tracking of control mode and status changes on the Operator station
· Full integration into Minerals Library of group control concept – GCC – Group
Control Connection
· Supervision of the Profibus / Modbus Communication
· Out of service function. Enables the operator to take single circuit breakers out of
control (No Action from the group, Faceplate, etc)

2.2 CONTROL

2.2.1 Library location

The Control Module Types for Power Distribution Monitoring objects and their
corresponding Structured Data Types are located in the library BMIEnergy 1.5-23 for
Control Builder Professional.

2.2.2 Point of Control

Power Distribution Monitoring objects have the 4 different POC (Point Of Control) SEQ,
CEN, LOC, and Out Of Service. All modes are selectable from the operator station.
The POC defines from where the circuit breaker will be controlled, e.g. from the central
control room, by opening / closing every circuit breaker separately (CEN) or from the field
(LOC).
In order to control an object from a certain POC, it must be selected first.
The different possible POC are:
Sequence:
The object is controlled from a superior application program e.g. from a drive group
sequence. Sequence can be set from the operator station or by the application program.
Central:
The object is controlled from the operator station by means of the open/close push
buttons on the faceplate.
Local:
The object is controlled from the MVD Panel directly. The Circuit Breaker Control module
will only follow and indicate the status in the MVD Panel. Whether the CBTrip Interlock
remains active depends on the MVD Panel design.

Out of Service:
The object is not in service and cannot be operated from any location. It also means that
the object will be skipped when running a superior group sequence.
Out of Service mode can be set and re-set from the operator station only.

2.2.3 Simulation Mode

The group object has the possibility to bet set in simulation mode from the operator
station. In this case, all the circuit breaker objects belonging to it will be forced to
simulation mode as well.
In simulation mode, feedbacks (e.g. open, close position) are simulated and commands
and alarms are disabled. This mode is used to test Group Sequence logic and Interlocks.

Even with disabled commands there is still possibility that digital/analog

output signals can be activated.
For safety always disconnect the Profibus, Modulebus or any other
interface to the field before switching to Simulation Mode.

To connect several CB graphics element’s bus bar or cable status together you must
follow the steps below:
1. Make sure that all CB graphics element’s property settings are as desired. Check
particularly the properties Busbar, OffColor and OnColor.
2. Create for every return property you like to use an expression variable (data type =
integer) on the graphic display and set the expression to 101 (off).

Connect these variables to the appropriate graphic item properties

(ReturnStatusBusbarA, ReturnStatusBusbarB or ReturnStatusCable).
3. Create for every shared bus bar or cable one expression variable (data type =
integer). As expression use the Min()-function to search the smallest return value.
The syntax for the Min()-function allows only two arguments. For more than two
arguments use a cascade like the following: “Min(Min(ReturnValue01,
ReturnValue02), ReturnValue03)”.
Connect this expression variable to the appropriate graphic item properties
(StatusBusbarA, StatusBusbarB or StatusCable).

2.3.1.5.1 Example
Below is an example for a dynamic colored single line display with two incomers, two
feeders and a bus coupler.

All used expression variables for the example are shown below. Note that all expression
variables for the return status are set to 101 (status off).

6. Power Factor Correction Control (PFCC) Control Module

6.1 BASIC DESCRIPTION

The Power Factor Correction Control Control Module Type allows the control of MV-
Switchgear RC Bank in order to monitor and control the Power Factor of the grid connect.

6.1.1 Features
· Communication between PFCC Module and the connected MV-Switchgear (up to 8
MV-Circuit Breaker Control Modules)
· Stepping Up / Down according the allowed hierarchical harmonics sequence
· Selectable Control Type:
o Stepping Up / Down by automatically choosing the best available RC Bank to
reach Cos Phi target
o Stepping Up / Down according individual predefined thresholds for reactive
Power
· Manual / Auto Mode
o Manual: PFCC must be started manually when ever the network characteristic is
changed, e.g. bus bar coupling CB open / close
o Auto: Automatic trip and restart of the PFCC when ever the network
characteristic is changed, e.g. bus bar coupling CB open / close
· Network support with parallel Infeed Trafo on the same Busbar
· Reactive power hysteresis up / down
· Step up / down delay time
· Additional over compensation step down delay time for prevention of over
compensation
· Prevents fast reclosing of CB
· Trending of RC Bank Use
· Tracking of Starting / Stopping time
· Tracking of Manual Mode / Automatic Mode change
· Monitoring of
o Actual Power,
o Actual Reactive Power,
o Actual Reactive Power used from the RC Bank
o and Actual Power Factor
· Issuing of warnings and alarms. For example in the case of:
o Over Compensation

All of this information is available to the operator through standard interfaces from the
BMI Energy Library:
· Graphical Elements (see §6.3.1)

· Multi-Trends (see extended Faceplate §6.3.2.2)

6.1.2 Function description

ControllerType 0: The PFCC monitors the reactive power and switches RC banks CB on
and off to reach the target cos phi
Controller Type 1: Similar to Type 0 but allow binary switching, that is, switch on higher
priority RC Banks even if this will lead to short time overcompensation
Controller Type 2: The PFCC monitors the reactive power and switches RC banks CB on
and off according predefined thresholds for the total reactive Power

6.1.2.1 Grid change trip

When ever the InFeed CB or coupling CB changes its position all RC Bank CB’s will trip.
Important: This has to be controlled by the IO.In.PFC_Enable parameter see
application examples §6.4.

6.1.2.2 Stepping sequence

The electrically possible stepping sequence (previous CB) is maintained by the
CB_PFC_Q#_PD parameters in the control module. Usually filters with a lower harmonic
order must be closed before filters with a higher order.
Important: Define the CB_PFC_Q#_PD according to the information from engineer
that did the layout of the compensation.

6.1.2.3 Step Up
Controller Type 0: Whenever the measured reactive power is higher than the nominal
compensation of the next switchable RC bank minus the hysteresis up value for a duration
longer than the step up time, then the next CB will close
Controller Type 1: Similar to Type 0 but the already compensated reactive power is added
to the measured reactive power. This allows for finer control using Steps with different
compensation values if short-time over-compensation is allowed.
Controller Type 2: Whenever the measured reactive power is higher than the defined
threshold value for a duration longer than the step up time, then the next CB will close

6.1.2.4 Step Down

Controller Type 0: Whenever the measured reactive power is lower than the hysteresis
down value for a duration longer than the step down time, then the next CB will open
Controller Type 1: Similar to Type 0 but after switching on a RC Bank (step up action), the
StepDownOvercompensationTime is applied for StepDownOvercompensationTime to
force faster step down
Controller Type 2: Whenever the measured reactive power is lower than the defined
threshold value for a duration longer than the step down time, then the next CB will open

6.1.2.5 Over compensation step down

As long as the measured reactive power is lower then the triggering value for
overcompensation CB’s will be opened in sequence with the step down over
compensation time
Remark: This function is not active for Controller Type 2.

6.1.2.6 Over compensation trip

In case overcompensation is present for a time longer then the alarm delay time defined in
the over compensation DIS all CB’s will trip
Remark: This function is not active for Controller Type 2.

6.1.2.7 Input value filter

In order to filter load peaks the low pass filter on the Power and Reactive Power AIS can
be set according to the application needs. The PFC uses the filtered value for its
calculations.

6.3.2.1.2 Parameters

Actual Status Description

Step Up Time Time the reactive power needs to be over the hysteresis limit in order
to close the CB
Step Down Time Time the reactive power needs to be below the hysteresis limit in
order to open the CB
Step Down Time Over Time for step down actions in case of over compensation warning
Comp.
Reclosing Time Time during which the re-closing of a RC Bank is prohibited
This is a safety feature for the Self-unloading of the RC Bank
-> should be programmed in the CB relay in addition
(for Local Operation) !
Hysteresis Up For a step up action the reactive power - next RC bank value must be
bigger then the hysteresis
Example :
- Next available RC Bank 2.0 MVar
- Q on the Busbar : 2.5 MVar
- Hysteresis Up : 1.00MVar
-> PFCC will only close next available RC Bank when Q on the Busbar
raise until 2.0+1.0 = 3.0MVar and stay above for Step Up time
Hysteresis Down For a step down action the reactive power must be lower then the
hysteresis
Example :
- Q on the Busbar : 1.1 MVar
- Q Triggering Value for Over Copmensation : 0.2 MVar
- Hysteresis Down : 1.00MVar
-> PFCC will only open the last switched on RC when Q on the Busbar
falls below 1.00MVar and stay below for Step Down time
Q triggering Value for Triggering value for overcompensation warning and alarm.
Over Compensation The time delay for warning and alarm can be set on the over
compensation DIS.
Warning will activate over compensation step down, and alarm will trip
all the CB’s
