Introduction
Filipinos are known for their English proficiency, ranking 20th in the English
Proficiency Index. However, the country has consistently ranked low in surveys
tackling reading comprehension, and the pandemic has only exacerbated this issue.

To address this, the KWL (Know, Want to Know, Learned) method, a reading
strategy, is being used to improve reading comprehension. This research aims to
enhance English language skills, particularly reading, in seventh-grade students by
conducting extensive reading activities following this method.

Statement of the Problem

1. Based on the PHIL-IRI scale, what is the level of word recognition and reading
competency of Grade 7 students in AVISS, in terms of:
a. Before the extensive reading activities?
b. After the extensive reading activities

2. What is the level of effectiveness of the extensive reading activities that follows
the KWL reading method?

3. Based on the findings, can the KWL improve reading comprehension of Grade 7
students in AVISS?
