Section A: This Question one is compulsory

Question One (1)

a) Enterprise Systems are usually regarded as large and complex


information systems that cross a variety of boundaries, within the
organization and also, often, across the world. They can be thought of as
single platforms that support a range of different activities across an
entire organization. In short, they are enterprise-wide systems, designed
to solve enterprise-wide problems. Enterprise systems can be briefly
called as packaged enterprise application software (PEAS) systems and is
a perfect combination of adjectives, like “enterprise”, “packaged”, and
“application”. Enterprise system is a broad term and includes Enterprise
resource planning (ERP), Supply Chain Management (SCM) and Customer
Relationship Management (CRM).
Explain these systems CRM, ERP and SCM by highlighting their
benefits to the business organization?

b) Explain the difference between Information systems(IS) and Management
Information System(MIS) [6marks]

c) Distinguish the terms “Information” and “Data” in Management

a) Computerized information systems are thought to be the driver of the


growth/expansion of any institution and business organizations.

State and explain four (4) ways in which Information systems can
support the expansion of the Business on the global Market?

b) Decision making is said to be the integral part of management in the


running of the activities of an organization. The decisions could be either
Programmable or Non-programmable, explain the two types of decisions
and give examples. [6marks]

c) Explain the three (3) categories of Information. [6marks]

d) What is a system in General System Theory(GST) [1marks]

a) You have been hired as a consultant for an established sports equipment


manufacturer to assist senior management in planning a new Executive
Support System (ESS). What factors will you advise management to take
into consideration, explaining how an ESS can enhance managerial
decision making and provide value for their business?

b) An expert system is a computer program that tries to emulate human


reasoning. It does this by combining the knowledge of human experts and
then, following a set of rules, it draws inferences.? Explain the reasons
for businesses to use Expert system?

d) Briefly explain how a successful Management Information System (MIS)

forces which can bring down business if not taken care of. This force
