a. Coordination
The 18th of October, one of our members contacted her cousin, Dennise Anne
Grace Peñamora, to ask for her permission regarding our group’s FEDP. Our
group chose her family to provide them with a Disaster Plan that can help her
and her two babies to get through possible disasters that they might encounter.
The Peñamora Family has encountered disaster before such as the typhoon
Hannah that caused a sudden flood in their lovely home, at that time they
weren’t prepared and they encountered some damages to their house. Thus, we
chose their family so we can assist them when it comes to their Disaster
Preparedness.
On the dates of October 20th, 23rd, 30th, and November 5th, we discussed and
meet with Dennise Anne Grace Peñamora to ask some of the details that we
need from her family such as the floor plan of their house, the evacuation route
in their neighborhood, the address of their house and the information about the
members of her family and to discussed with her the updates that we have from
the FEDP.
d. Go bag creation
On the 6th of November, we discussed with Dennise the GO BAG Creation,
where we tackled the essence of it and gave her the list of items that she should
have inside of her GO BAG.
On the 9th of November, we showed Dennise the finished parts of the FEDP that we
created for her family. We also asked her if there are any mistakes regarding the
information of her family, house and neighborhood. The group also, thanked her for
her kindness and cooperation with our FEDP creation.
IV. Reflection
It is undeniable that individuals in our generation are not very attentive to disasters.
They are unaware of the natural threats and calamities that could occur in their own
towns. They simply know that disasters occur, but they don't truly understand what
they entail or the potential consequences. Because of this, when there is one, they
are not adequately prepared. People frequently fail to consider the possibilities that
come with calamities. They are dozing off thinking about the possibility or reality of
what might occur in the event of a calamity. This is the reason that community
education and broad awareness regarding disasters are important.
The primary goal of a family disaster and emergency plan is to ensure the safety
and survival of all family members. Having a well thought out plan can help minimize
risks and increase the chances of everyone in the family making it through a disaster
unharmed. It also includes communication strategies to help family members stay in
touch during a disaster. This is essential for coordinating actions, sharing
information, and providing reassurance to loved ones. Having a plan in place
ensures that everyone knows their roles and responsibilities in an emergency.
Moreover, in cases where evacuation is necessary, a family disaster and emergency
plan will include evacuation routes, assembly points, and a checklist of essential
items to take with you. This can help family members evacuate quickly and safely.
This prevents confusion and enables a more organized response to the situation.
The plan also anticipated provisions for managing resources such as food, water,
and medical supplies during a disaster, ensuring that everyone's needs are met.
Disasters can be highly stressful and traumatic. A family emergency plan can
address the well-being of family members and provide guidance on how to
accompany one another before, during and after various circumstances. A family
emergency plan may also encourage community involvement and coordination with
neighbors and local authorities, which can be vital for mutual assistance during
disasters. There are numerous factors we considered in the family disaster and
emergency plan, our intellectual capacity and resourcefulness have been challenged
thoroughly in the process of constructing the compilation. However, we realized that
it is important to regularly review and update the family disaster and emergency
plan to account for changes in family dynamics, contact information, or the evolving
risks in your area. Preparedness can make a significant difference in the outcomes of
a disaster, and having a plan can help your family better navigate and cope with
challenging situations.
