For fittings and small pipe pieces rag cleaning ean be performed if possible, In addition, for large diameters pipes rag cleaning. shall be conducted if found practical As a minimam & prior o installation and/or erection of pipe spools on pipe racks & pipe supports the following shall be conducted: ‘A) All pipes shall be intemally cleaned by sir blowing. Also, large diameter pipe is rag cleaned (brushed, swept) as practical to do 80. B) All prefabricated pipe spools shall be visually inspected for cleanliness, & shall have {orcign material removed from the inside ©) Piping ends shall be covered to prevent the entrapment of foreign materials, ‘Unauthorized removal of end covers shall not be permuted. During site threading operations, the threading shall be checked for the pipe ends are reamed clean after threading, oil and residual shavings are removed from inside piping and the threads ae chased and cleaned of debris and debuted During assembly and erection, it shall be ensured that no foreign materials (such as welding consumables, Iumbers, gloves, et.) are left inside the piping system. If found any ‘unwanted materials it shall be cleaned by air lowing or rag cleaning. Prior to start any pressure testing activities of the piping system, the internal cleaning by approved method shall be performed; the cleanliness of piping system shall be verified and ocumented, All sensitive equipment which will be damaged during cleaning and flushing of the piping system shall not be installed wir if stalled sla Le vemoved prioe to commencing the cleaning or flushing process, List of such equipments/tems ae stated in Para 6.15, Soft seated valves and control valves shall not be installed until after the lines have been thoroughly cleaned or flushed. During air blowing process, all the drain points shall be opened (One by one) and closed after removing the debris or foreign materials from each location to make sure the 100% internal cleanliness ofthe system, 743 Repeat flushing until the cleanliness is verified by the responsible quality control inspector 72 Pressurized Air Shock Blowing (PASB) 7.2.1 Pressurized Air Shock Blowing (PASB) for intial cleaning for instrament air, plant air and as an alternative method for initial cleaning of small bore pipe (less than 2 inch. 722 Use Pressurized Air Shock Blowing (PASB) if there are problems removing trapped liquid in the piping, or to verity cleanliness of small ore pipe where video inspection is impossible or inadequate due to pipe dimension or configuration. 7.2.3 The air shocking pressure shall never exceed the working pressure ofthe system and shall ‘never be more than 810 kPa (115 psi). 7.24 During Pressurized Air Shock Blowing process, all the drain points shall be opened (One ‘by one) withthe required intemal pressure and closed after removing the debris or foreign ‘materials ftom each location to make sure the 100% internal cleanliness of the system. 7.28 Safety precautions shall be considered during all stages of piping intemal cleaning process ‘to avoid human injuries and material damage 7.2.6 Repeat flushing until cleanliness is verified by the responsible quality contrl inspector. 73. Water Flushing 73,1 Equipment or instruments which are sensitive to damage during water flushing shall be removed, blocked off or isolated. Ball valves shall be flushed in fully open positon, 73.2. For lines below 4” dia, minimum velocity of water flushing shall be is 3 mis. 73 For lines 4" and above, high pressure jet (otating hose or nozzle) ata minimum pressure (of 60.8 mPa (8.8 psi) is use. After flashing, the piping systems shall be completely drained, dried to a dew point below -1°C and protected against corrosion as per SAES-A-007 (Hydrostatic Testing Fluids and Lay-up Procedures) or NSH-RCP-PRO-PI-009 (Quality contol procedure for hydrostatic testing of above ground piping).
