STARTED
Hi, I’m Igor Smirnov and I'm here to help you make more
money, grow your following, and help more people too!
I saved and invested $100,000+ on stock market and I travelled around the world and have
visited 20 countries thus far.
I have been in online business for the last 12 years and I turned it into my full-time stream
of income.
With features like the story, the ability to go live, IGTV, shopping on the platform and
so much more, Instagram continues to improve and dominating the social media
industry. Instagram communities are a gold mine.
Check out some commonly known companies that are betting it all on Instagram:
GETTING STARTED
Selecting a niche will not only help you to decide on a name but also enable you to
build an engaged followership. A targeted approach is crucial in building a strong
personal and professional brand. While picking the wrong niche can have you destined
for failure, not picking a niche at all can lead to brand dilution.
If you’re not passionate about your niche, you won’t succeed. Your passion or love for
your niche will translate into more meaningful posts. Choosing a niche just for its
lucrativeness, in the long run, will leave you feeling drained and demotivated. This is
especially so because the influencer space is competitive; the only thing will drive you
to push yourself is your love for the chosen niche.
You have to pick a sizeable market when selecting your niche. If you pick something
that’s too small, there won’t be enough buyers and sellers in the niche to support
brand sponsorships.
Often times, after shortlisting and pursuing their niche, most influencers will find out
1 – 2 years later that they can’t make any money in their chosen niche because it’s too
small or isn’t growing. Therefore, to avoid that mistake, use Google to estimate the
growth trends of your shortlisted niches and finalise one that is expanding so you can
reap the rewards of increased demand in the marketplace.
4. Tip 4 –Use the same name that you have in other social networksUsers will be able
to find you in all your social networks with ease.
1. Add the language: if you have a company and use different profiles for different
languages, you can add the language (in use) at the end of your name to differentiate
each profile.
3. Add a keyword: If you are a business, you can opt to add your activity to your name
to differentiate your profile (for example: restaurant, spa, software, etc.)
4. Add “I am:” If the name you were planning to use already exists, another ingenuous
solution is to add in front of your name I am.
Your bio is one of the first things someone will see on your profile. Your bio makes the
first impression and your content closes the sale.
Therefore, your bio must represent you and what you post. Try to make it fun,
amusing and authentic. Your bio is your last chance at effectively and strategically
increasing the chances of someone clicking the “follow” button.
Share a bit about you and your vision in life and establish credibility for yourself.
Brownie points if you can also explain why someone would benefit from following
your account
You need to make your profile public, for obvious reasons. It is also advisable to
switch to a business account. This will allow not only allow you to track where your
followers are from but will also enable you to get more data and insight that will in
turn assist you in optimising your account (without the need for a third party app).
It may sound simple, but yet it’s one of the most important
things to build a brand on Instagram.
If you are active (consistently) on the app, day in and day out, Instagram’s algorithm
would automatically push your account up.
Additionally, you also have to stay consistent with the latest version of the app and be
aware of the new features.
Instagram rolls out new features from time to time, especially for Stories. These new
features will be of great help to engage your audience and get them excited.
It is essential to make your profile stand out from the crowd – you can do this by
keeping your feed cohesive and streamlined.
You have to get maximum attention from anyone who visits your profile – select a
theme for your profile, by which the way you take or edit your photos have the same
process so that they look more professional.
To make your content stand out, you have to ask yourself a lot of questions:
What will frame the photo? Where will I stand? How will the lighting be like? What
should I wear to complement the surroundings or the background?
You have to think about all these things that compose your photo, and ultimately,
your content.
Editing your photos professionally is a good way to make your photos look good.
TIP: Portraits (4:5 ratio) usually perform better than landscape/square shots because
portrait images take up more space, hence they will be shown larger in the newsfeed,
catching your audience’s attention easily.
STORY
Most social media marketers have said that Instagram Story is a great idea for
engagement. There is nothing like a story to engage your audience – it takes only a
few seconds to post a story.
You have to know how to make the best use of your stories – using them effectively
will help you connect with your audience at a deeper level and they will feel more
valued.
You can do a lot of things to engage them – ask questions, take polls, conduct a quiz,
run a countdown, add GIFs, chat and what not!
One of the most effective ways to get your audience engaged with you is to be like a
friend – show them who you are, update them about your everyday life, tell them
about stuff you like, show your face to them.
And you have to make sure that it doesn’t look monotonous. You have got to be
creative. Traveling somewhere? Post a story about it. Attending an event, tell your
people about it with a quick story.
People like people who are true and don’t wear a mask. Be you. Don’t be shy to show
your face to your audience and talk to them about important subjects related to your
life. Being authentic is one of the biggest advantages of the digital world.
You don’t have to use all the features in a single story. You can try one each day, but
the goal is to be consistent and incorporate them on a daily basis.
One major strategy to use stories effectively is to know your audience, collect
information from them about themselves. Try to figure out their likes and dislikes.
For instance, you can use the ‘Questions’ feature to conduct an ‘Ask me anything’
event and know what your audience is curious about. Or, you may use ‘Polls’ to ask
for their opinion on something, your new product for instance.
Going live on Instagram is a great way to talk to your audience in real-time and
collect crucial information about their interests. It is one of the most effective ways
to connect with them since you can’t edit anything – it’s real and people like it for its
authenticity.
And for the same reason, it is important to do some preparation before going live.
Make sure you list down the things that you are going to talk about and do some
rehearsals. Doing so will give you really good results – your Live will have a decent
flow.
If possible, try to interview influencers (in your market) and do live sessions on
Instagram – it’s a great strategy to get some content for your Live.
Hands down, swipe up is one of the best features of Instagram because it lets you give
clear call-to-actions (CTAs) to your audience and take them where you want to.
I recommend that you read this section, where I’ll be sharing with you some amazing
strategies to make the best use of the story swipe up, EVEN IF you don’t have 10K
followers yet. You can try some of these even for a smaller audience.
When you are using the swipe up feature, you are in the driver’s seat. You tell your
audience WHAT they should do and WHERE they should go. Therefore, it’s ideal to
drive traffic to an offer on your product(s).
Post a sequence of stories, tell them what you offer, why it is valuable, why they need
it, who will be benefitted from it and how they can get it.
One of the misconceptions that most business owners have is that the swipe up
feature is solely used to promote their products and services.
Itis also useful to send your audience to your other social media platforms or even
other profiles of your own.
What if you don’t have 10K followers? Well, you can still make use of the swipe up
feature in a subtle manner and with some extra efforts. Here is what you can do:
Leveraging the swipe up through influencers can turn the tables for you. This
investment is worth a lot if done correctly.
I have driven literally thousands of leads and made hundreds of sales in just a few
days with this secret method.
I am not telling you this to brag about it, I am telling you because it works! You don’t
need 10K followers to do it. Just some hard work and the game is yours.
Unlike static metrics like the number of followers you have, engagement rate is a
dynamic metric that tells you how often your audience interacts with your posts and
lets you focus on important data.
There is nothing like good engagement rates or bad engagement rates. They rely on
various factors and vary from businesses of varying sizes.
Therefore, you can see the engagement rates of others to get an idea about how you
should look at your own.
CAPTIONS
One of the problems that most people have is writing good captions for their photos.
Should your caption be a glimpse from the text in the picture? Should it be funny or
serious? Should it be inspiring? Should you use hashtags? If so, what and how many?
Should you use emojis? Should you place a call-to-action (CTA)?
It is also important to trigger your audience for engagement manually by asking them
questions and encouraging them to comment on your posts. Having an effective call-
to-action (CTA) is one of the best ways to engage your audience.
Therefore, you have to be as serious with your captions as you are with your posts.
It’s not just about creating a good piece of content, but it is also about keeping your
audience engaged and reach new people by writing great captions.
POSTING
A page without content is just trash. Your content should
define who you are, your personality, what you do and should
get people hooked and to follow you. Great content will get
your following growing.
Let your followers know that you are like their friend and
build authentic relationships with them.
Prepare a schedule and stick to it – it’s not just about posting content, but posting
them at regular intervals. For instance, if you post at a certain time every day, your
followers will automatically expect your post at that time every day.
One of the important things to when you are starting out is to post REGULARLY. It lets
new users to find you. To start with, post once a day at a certain time.
I had an amazing growth when I posted once a day for several months. At the same
time, it slowed down a lot when I posted only twice a week.
But remember, don’t just post something for the sake of it. When you compromise on
the quality of your content and post something totally random, chances are that you
will lose some of your valuable followers.
POST TIMING
The question here is very simple: What is the right time to post content?
How to find it?
And the answer is simple, too! Go to your Business ‘Insights’, go to the ‘Audience’
section and scroll down to ‘Followers’. There you will see when your followers are the
most active.
HASHTAGS
Hashtags are great way to make your posts get more reach. It lets people discover
you and your content.
One effective technique you can do is to follow certain hashtags in your interests to
discover new profiles and content in that area. You can also search for hashtags to
get some random ideas.
In my case, the best-performing posts are those that reach more accounts/profiles
that are not following me. It may sound strange, but it isn’t.
One important note: make sure that you are not using broken hashtags. If a hashtag
is broken, you will see something like ‘Recent posts from #hashtag are currently
hidden because the community has reported some content that may not meet
Instagram’s community guidelines”.
It is highly important to ensure that you use hashtags relevant to your post. It doesn’t
make sense to use #CoupleGoals for a photo of a single person or to use #India if you
are not in India. When people find irrelevant content while searching for a specific
content with the help of hashtags, they will definitely not ‘Like’ the post.
Your posts will be shown only to a selected set of people determined by Instagram’s
algorithm. And only if people engage with your content, make some comments, will
your new posts get more reach.
It mostly happens in the first hour after you post something. Within this one hour,
Instagram will determine the quality of your content and decide if it will show it to
more people or not. And one of the best ways to get people engage with your content
is to have a quality photo, great caption and appropriate set of hashtags. If you win
the first hour, more people will see your content!
Another great way to let new people discover your profile is to engage with other
accounts and hopefully engage them with your content as well.
I usually spend a minimum of one hour a day engaging with other accounts.
Sometimes, it would be 2-3 hours. It could be commenting to posts shown in your
feed, in ‘Explore’, replying to DMs and even trigger engagement by commenting on
your own photos.
Again, don’t just comment on random people’s posts just for the sake of it. Make sure
that it is MEANINGFUL and have some value. Doing so, they will know that you have
genuinely liked their content/caption and shared your opinion.
You have no idea who will be reading your content and be intrigued to check your
page and your content, but what you have control over is the ability to build
meaningful relationships with people you follow by leaving meaningful comments.
Also, don’t just post some comment and then hide under the table. I’d like to call it
‘Post and then Ghost’. Make sure that you are active on Instagram 30 minutes before
and after posting comments. This way, other active users will easily find you.
Try to strike a conversation with your audience when you post something new. Try to
get some comments within 30 minutes after you post something. Show them that you
CARE for them and value their comment.
One thing you can do to let them know that you appreciate their comment is to go to
their profile and engage with their content. It’s a win-win. And it also helps you to
build authentic relationships with your community.
If that sounds like requiring too much time and effort, you can do something really
simple – just ‘Like’ their comment and reply to them. I usually try to reply to all the
comments within the first 30 minutes. In some cases, I take some time to write
something huge.
During my first year on Instagram, I used some of these groups. You will get more
from the platform only when you use it 100% authentically, which means to
comment on others content because you really want to. It’s when you scroll through
your feed because you are eager to see what is new and discover new content
because you want to explore many things.
It’s when you get friends, start conversations with those who product quality
content, let them know that you love their work, show your appreciation by liking
their posts, build relationships with them. When you do all these with real intent,
there is no stopping you growing!
TIP: The more you engage with other people and the more they engage with you and
your content, the more your posts will be shown in their feed.
ENGAGEMENT CYCLE
There is something called as “The Engagement Cycle”, which is one of the best tactics
to grow your overall engagement rate. With this tactic, you can get 5-10 times more
likes and comments to your posts. How does it work?
2. Find a BIG profile in your niche that had just posted in last 30 minutes (fewer than
that is best)
3. Follow people who have liked their latest post (you can easily find them by clicking
on the ‘Likes’). These are the people who are currently online, using the application.
4. Repeat the process until you are not allowed to follow any more accounts. Refresh
your notifications – every time you get a new follower, go to their page immediately
and like at least 5 of their photos.
Not only will this get more likes and comments to your posts, but it will also increase
your following significantly. The more you do this, on a daily basis, the more you
grow. It definitely is a lot of work, but it really pays off!
You can also tag big shots in your niche in your posts. It’s a long shot, but if you do it
consistently, some bigger accounts will start to notice you. Who knows, they might
start liking your content and might even spread the word about you or follow you.
1.Powerlikes
2.Features
Every time you post something, the Instagram algorithm decides how many people
will be exposed to it. It does this based on various factors such as the number of likes
you get, how quickly you get them and who are liking your content.
Powerlike is when you tag a big gun on Instagram on your post and they react to it
with a like or a comment. Powerlikes help your content to be placed on the ‘Explore’
page, and eventually helps your content go viral.
Another great thing which can happen from tagging people with massive followers is
that there is a huge potential they will like it or even repost it to give you some credit.
It’s called the ‘Free Feature’, sending you hundreds of new followers quickly.
BPP
The Best Performing Posts (BPP), also called as the Unicorn Posts, are those when
someone posts a content that outperforms every other content of theirs.
One of the hacks to grow on Instagram is to repost or even recreate content of your
competitors or influencers that performed really well. It will work for sure because it
has already proven to do well and has got great results.
Now it’s time for you to take action – find content in your niche that have performed
well and try to recreate them for your page. I have been doing this for years now and I
still am amazed.
Burst Posting
‘Burst Posting’ strategy has been instrumental in generating
thousands of leads for and hundreds of sales of my products
and services.
This strategy has not only time and again produced amazing
results in the matter of just a few days, but it has also literally
saved me from wiping my hands and selling my page for good!
“So, how do you use ‘Burst Posting’ strategy to reach enormous masses of people?”
3. Step 3: Create an ad that briefly explains your offer, along with a captivating
caption, driving people to click the link in your bio or send you an email/DM.
4. Step 4: Come up with a marketing budget for yourself and start negotiating
promotion prices with influencers.
5. Step 5: Here is the secret sauce - have all the influencers post your ad at the same
time on the same day.
6. Step 6: Watch as ‘Burst Posting’ does its magic and traffic begins to pour in!
Tip 1: Find as many top influencers as possible in your niche. I usually do Burst Posting
strategy with 10-20 influencers.
Tip 2: Before using the ‘Burst Posting’ strategy, make sure to set up backend
infrastructure to track data on your leads.
Instagram ‘Affiliate Marketing’ involves influencers (that is, Instagrammers who have
a large following) promoting and selling someone else's products. In return, these
influencers earn a commission on each sale that is made as a result of their post.
While the brand being advertised and promoted gains customer interest, the
influencer earns money.
The mutually beneficial affiliate marketing strategy can be done on many social media
channels and is certainly not limited to just Instagram.
“How can affiliates promote links on Instagram when you can’t link on Instagram?”
1. Solution 1:Affiliate Link in Your Bio (Permanent)Use the link in your bio to direct
traffic to the brand site. This works well if you are always promoting the same brand,
product or link and especially ideal if you are a brand ambassador and an exclusive
affiliate for the brand.
4. Solution 4: Include the Affiliate Link in your Photo or in your Photo Description or
in your Instagram Story
This is by far the least effective, but if you use a “URL shortener” like Bl.ink and
create a branded URL that is easy to remember andshort enough to type, some of
your avid followers might just take a screenshot of your photo or description and
then input the URL manually into their browser. Brownie points for you if you can
utilize a coupon code in lieu of a URL; this will make it easier for your audience to
recall.
The mutually beneficial affiliate marketing strategy can be done on many social media
channels and is certainly not limited to just Instagram.
Why?
Well, it is because at 10K followers, you are able to swipe up directly to external
websites from your stories. However, do note that you need to have a business
account to be able to enable this feature.
“It’s not about what you know, but rather who you know that matters”.
The more people you know around the world, the more opportunities you will have in
life.
Instagram Networking is one of the most important things that you should do if you want
to build large and reputable Instagram page and want to take a cut from the multi-trillion
dollar advertising marketing budget that is shifting to social media.
Instagram made it really easy to network with anyone. You can do this by commenting on
someone’s post, direct messaging someone, and/or talking on KIK, Group me or Telegram.
Networking is exactly how you find those systemized shoutout groups we talked about
earlier. We found them by simply asking pages to do a SFS, and then they asked if we
wanted to be in their group.
We got entered into a shoutout group and within a few short months our pages grew
organically by 3-5k per month.
Remember, Instagram is more than just a standard social media. If you want to really
take it to the next level for your business and your life, then you need to start seeing it as
a platform.
Canva
They are great for editing photos of any kind! Canva is awesome
for creating story images that actually fit the sizing for your
Instagram stories.
VIDEOSHOP/SPLICE
The major perk of Videoshop is that they tell you when to make
certain cuts to fit the time frame of all features on Instagram. So,
it will show you how long you can play it to fit your story, along
with your feed.
You can obviously use Google as well. This really only applies to
people who are building an account similar to mine where they
need high-quality backgrounds.
REPOST APP
This app is a great tool that you can use to repost videos from the
explorer page.
All you do is copy the link of the video on Instagram then, in this
app, you can save it to your phone to repost yourself.
ANCHOR
I use this primarily for my podcast series. It’s perfect for recording
an audio that you may want to post on IGTV, your story, or to
create a really cool video for your feed.
It’s also just good to have for really any social media if you plan to
record anything.
RECORD IT
Recording your screen can be useful to show your followers some
information on your phone while you are live.
This is a fun app that allows you to screen record your phone,
which is typically used to explain some- thing or to create a
course.
This AUTO POSTING! Bettr is what I use to auto post images. It’s
great for anyone who is really busy, traveling, or simply wants to
post during the night to reach a new audience.
The basic application of auto posting for you is free. The up-sell is
adding hashtags to your images, which is very helpful, and worth
it!
COMMAND
Command is the best app I’ve found to track all of your analytics
of your page.
I know if you have a business account you can see a lot of this info
in the insights section of page, however this app also let’s you see
your best performing images and goes deeper into your growth
and engagement rate.
