Topic 1.1: Practice Assessment

Why Google Forms?
Google Forms was created to help teachers and/or students create online surveys, assessments,
and quizzes. It automatically grades assessments and quizzes. It allows users to receive fast and
reliable information from people all over the world. All you must do is send out the link and you
can begin receiving results immediately. Before Google Forms, most assessments were
completed on paper and with this comes the risk of losing the papers and/or having to schedule
out hours to grade assessments. With this new feature, all the information is stored in one place.

Before we begin creating the practice assessment, you need to know how to access the “waffle”

Steps:
1. Go to Google.com
2. Look in the top right corner and you will see the image below

This is how you will access all the websites used in the module.

To access Google Forms, you will need to scroll down until you see the purple icon that says
“forms”.
Click that icon to navigate to Google Forms.

The first thing you should do when creating this form is create a title and description. The title
will make it easier to find this activity in your Google Drive later.

Here is a sample title and description.

Once you have created a title and description, it is time to create the questions. For assignments
you will have to create a 5-10 question assessment, including one short response question. To the
right of the question box, you will see a drop-down menu that gives you many different question
types. Here is where you will change to a short response question when you are ready. The other
questions should be multiple choice.

As stated before, Google Forms can be used for many different purposes. To make it a quiz or an
assessment you must change a few features. You will need to click the settings tab at the top and
turn on the quiz setting. Once you have completed this step, you can select the correct answers so
that Google Forms automatically grades the assessment.

Here is an example of quiz question and you can see that I have selected Myrtle Beach as the
correct response. In the bottom right corner, you can require questions, which means the person
taking the assessment will not be able to submit until all required questions are answered. I
usually require all questions to be answered, but you do not have to for assignment 1.

To access Google Documents, follow steps one and two and select the blue icon that says
documents. This is where you will write the narrative for assignment one.

Topic 1.2: Jamboard Activity
The next section of Module 3 is to create a Google Jamboard.
Google Jamboard is a digital whiteboard that allows you to collaborate with others in real time
using a web browser or a mobile device.
To access Google Jamboard, you will need to click on the “waffle” and find the icon that says
Jamboard.

Module 3: Creation of Projects in Google Drive

To get started you will click the plus sign in the bottom right corner, and this should appear.

Now you have a blank whiteboard to begin creating an activity. The first thing you want to do is
title the Jamboard. For your assignment, you are expected to create a review game or would you
rather.

Example title: Would You Rather: Summer Edition

Once you have created a unique title, you can start customizing your Jamboard. You can use the
set background feature to use the backgrounds included on the website or you can save and
upload images. The magnifying glass can be used to zoom in and out of the whiteboard. Once
you begin making edits and you want to revert to a clear canvas you can select the clear frame
button. On the left side of the Jamboard you will see a tool bar.

Tool bar features in order from top to bottom:

1. Pen – Use this feature to write information or draw images
2. Eraser
3. Select – Use this feature to go back to your mouse after using the pen or eraser
4. Sticky note – You can add sticky notes with information
5. Add image – Use this feature to add images to your whiteboard
6. Circle – Use this feature to add circles to your whiteboard
7. Text box – Use this feature to add text to the whiteboard. You will not need this feature if
you write in the sticky notes.
8. Laser – Use this feature when presenting to others

To navigate from slide to slide, use these arrows.

If you would like to add an image for the background, you will click the add image button on the
tool bar. You can save and upload an image, or you can use the Google image search. You can
search any topic to find a background, but it is much easier to type in Jamboard background or
“topic” background. By doing this, you lessen the chance of running into sizing and formatting
issues.

Assignment 3: Google Slides

Google Slides is a modern version of Microsoft PowerPoint that allows for collaboration in real
time. You can insert images, format text, animations, and other media to Google Slides. There
are many different templates that you can use to make it visibly pleasing. Just like PowerPoint,

you can add transitions in between slides. Since Google Slides is web based, it is more user
friendly when searching for videos and/or images to add to your presentation. For assignment 3,
you will be creating a Google Slides Presentation to showcase what you’ve learned in this
module. You will need to add media (videos/images) and transitions.

Google Slides can also be accessed using the waffle and the icon below.

The first step in creating a Google Slides presentation is selecting a theme and/or choosing a
background color for you presentation.

Once you click the theme button you will see a list of themes appear. If you don’t like the themes
listed, you can choose a background color or add an image for your background.

After you have selected a background/theme you can begin creating your slide presentation.

Steps:
1. Title your presentation in the top left corner
2. Add slides using the plus sign under the yellow icon
3. Use the add image button or the insert image button to add images to your presentation.
4. Add videos to your presentation by clicking insert video. You can add a video using the
URL or through a YouTube search.
5. Transitions can be added using the transition button on the horizontal toolbar
