IndiChrome On-Press
1. Purpose
The purpose of this Application Note is to clarify various issues for IndiChrome On-Press
users, in the following topics:
• Installation
• ICISS HotFolder
• PhotoShop
• Indigo PPD
• Yours Truly Designer

2. Installation
2.1. Dongle
Connect the dongle that is provided in the kit.
If an ADB port is not available and you want to connect the dongle to a USB port, use a
USB-to-ADB converter.
An example of a USB-to-ADB converter is ‘Imate’ by Griffin Technologies.

2.2. ICISS HotFolder

Drag and drop the ICISS HotFolder 2.0 folder onto the hard drive (recommended
location: Applications folder). It is important to copy the entire folder. For a first time
install, personalize your copy with the serial number provided in the kit.

2.3. CoCo
Download the CoCo installer from http://aurelon.iae.nl/VISU/index.htm
PhotoShop 6 users must download CoCo ver 3.08. Previous PhotoShop versions may use
CoCo ver 3.06 or higher.
Double-click the installer and follow the on-screen instructions.
The CoCo filter will be located in the PhotoShop folder under Plug-Ins / Filters.
For a first time install, personalize your copy with the serial number provided in the kit.

2.4. Channel24
Install the Channel24 PhotoShop plug-in by dragging and dropping Channel24 onto the
PhotoShop folder under Plug-Ins / File Formats.
The installation floppy disk is disposable and cannot be used more than once.
Therefore, we recommend that before the first use, you duplicate it or create a disk
image using Apple Disk Copy.

Create a disk image using Apple Disk Copy, as follows:
1. Insert the Channel 24 floppy disk into the drive.
2. Open Apple Disk Copy.
3. From the Image menu…

…select Create Image from Disk.

The Select the source disk window appears:

4. From the Name list, select Channel 24 and click the Choose button.
The Save disk image as window appears:

5. From the Format dropdown list, select Read/Write.

Click the Save button.
6. Use the saved img file to install.

3. ICISS HotFolder
• When setting up the hotfolders, we recommend that you save the settings and
load them the next time you use ICISS HotFolder.
• When setting up the output file, the extension should indicate an IndiChrome
file.
For example: _GCR.eps or _NoGCR.eps
• Only TIFF, PhotoShop, or CT type files can be converted.
• If you drop a file onto a correctly defined HotFolder and it does not work,
recheck the file type.
• The output is 8 separate files: Preview, C, M, Y, K, Orange, Violet, and
Magenta1.

4. PhotoShop
4.1. PhotoShop DCS2 Single File
An IndiChrome file (ICISS DCS2) that is opened in PhotoShop 5 or higher, can be saved
as a PhotoShop DCS2 single file. This simplifies file management.
A PhotoShop DCS2 single file can be used in any DTP application that supports pre-
separated images, including Illustrator.
Save as a PhotoShop DCS2 single file as follows:
1. Open the ICISS DCS2 file in PhotoShop 5 or higher.
2. Change the names of the alpha channels:
• Alpha 1 to Violet
• Alpha 2 to Orange
• Alpha 3 to Magenta1
After these changes are made to the alpha
channels, the Channels window appears as shown
on the right.
3. Select all Alpha channels.

4. Use the Save as command to save the image as a PhotoShop DCS 2.0 type file.
DCS type should be any Single file:

Binary encoding will give the best results. JPEG maximum quality gives results
that are lesser quality than Binary encoding, but the file will be up to 10 times
smaller.

4.2. CoCo 3.08

During a first time usage of PhotoShop with CoCo 3.08:
• In CoCo’s preferences window, the display method of the preview mode should
be set to Digital/Ink.

• Load the IndiChrome InkSet. We recommend that you save it as the default.

5. Indigo PPD
The Indigo PPD contains an IndiChrome separation list.
The separation list is located in the PS driver under Indigo Specific Options (in Apple
LaserWriter) or Printer Specific Options (in Adobe PS writer).

Using Separation list: IndiChrome allows PostScript to RIP with all the necessary
separations via the 4-colors HotFolder (specific HotFolder settings are not necessary).
We recommend that you create all IndiChrome PostScript and JLYT files using
Separation list: IndiChrome.

6. Yours Truly Designer

Yours Truly Designer (YTD) version 1.1 supports IndiChrome file creation.
Support for short run jobs (imposition) is complete.
Support for personalization jobs is limited.
Refer to the Yours Truly Designer User Manual, pages 83-113.
When creating an IndiChrome job using YTD, there is no need to create a special RIP
configuration. The JLYT can be sent to the LAN.

Personalization Jobs
Fix Data
IndiChrome can be applied to all types of fixed data for all personalization modes.

Image Channels
IndiChrome can be applied to Manual and Rich jobs’ image channels. It can be applied to
Fast jobs’ image channels if the image variable data is JLYT format.

Text Channels
Orange and Violet are supported in all personalization jobs if the text is of one
separation only: all tint levels of Orange or all tint levels of Violet.
IndiChrome multi-ink colors are supported in Manual and Rich jobs.

Limitation
• When the channel does not contain the same separations as the fixed
background, background knockout is not supported in any personalization mode.
• DCS2 image channels cannot be “fit to box”.
