The document presents the results of a correlation analysis between arm span (X) and height (Y) of students in a class. It calculates the correlation coefficient (r) between the two variables and finds a strong positive correlation of 0.96. It then performs a significance test of the correlation and concludes that there is a significant relationship between arm span and height based on a t-value greater than the critical value. Finally, it derives the regression equation for predicting height from arm span.

INTERPRETATION: There is a "strong positive correlation" between the arm span

and the height of the students in 11-ABM-A.
TESTING THE SIGNIFICANCE OF r

Step 1: State the null and alternative hypotheses.

Ho: There is no significant relationship between the arm span and the height of the students in
11-ABM-A. ( r =0 )
Ha: There is a significant relationship between the arm span and the height of the students in
11-ABM-A. (r ≠ 0)

Step 2: Compute the value of t using the formula t=r

√ n−2
1−r 2
Here n = 17 and r = 0.96. Substituting the values to the formula,

We have, t=0.96
√ 17−2
1−0.962
t=0.96
√ 15
1−0.9216
t=0.96
√ 15
0.0784
t=0.96 ( 13.83208337931 )

t=13.278∨13.279

Step 3: Compare the computed value of t with the critical value of t, as found in
the table. Based on the null hypothesis, the test calls for a two-tailed test. The
degree of freedom is n-2.
Using df =n−2df =17−2 df =15
Use a=0.01two-tailed test Critical t-value is 2.947

t=2.947

Step 4: Make Decision.

Since the computed t = 13.278 is greater than the critical value of 2.947, we reject the null
hypothesis then accept the alternative hypothesis. So, we say that there is a significant
relationship between the arm span and the height of the students.

We conclude that the relationship between the arm span and

the height of the students in 11-ABM-A exist in the population.
