Mathematics of Graph

The document discusses different types of graphs in mathematics including simple graphs, multigraphs, complete graphs, cycles, wheels, hypercubes, and bipartite graphs. It provides examples of practical applications of graphs such as for map directions, traffic networks, computer science, electrical engineering, and physics/chemistry. Graphs are mathematical structures that can model pairwise relations between objects and are useful for representing many real-world networks and relationships.

GRAPH

MATHEMATICS IN THE MODERN WORLD

GRAPH
• is a structure amounting to a set of objects in which some pairs of
the objects are in some sense “related”. The objects of the graph
correspond to vertices and the relations between them correspond
to edges. A graph is depicted diagrammatically as a set of dots
depicting vertices connected by lines or curves depicting edges.
TYPES OF GRAPHS
1. SIMPLE GRAPH
2. MULTIGRAPH
TYPES OF GRAPHS

SIMPLE GRAPH MULTIGRAPH

• A graph in which each edge • A graph in which multiple
connects edges may connect the same
two different vertices and pair of vertices.
where no two edges connect
the same pair of vertices.
Special Simple Graphs
1. Complete Graphs
2. Cycles
3. Wheels
4. Hypercube
5. Bipartite Graphs
Complete Graphs
A simple graph of vertices having exactly one edge between each
pair of vertices.
Cycles
A graph that consists of a single cycle.
Wheels
• a wheel graph is a graph formed by connecting a single universal
vertex to all vertices of a cycle
Hypercube
A graph formed from the vertices and edges of an n-dimensional
hypercube.
Bipartite
A graph whose vertices can be divided into two disjoint
PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS OF GRAPHS

1. Map Directions
2. Traffic Networks
3. Computer Science
4. Electrical Engineering
5. Physics and Chemistry
