Section A

For questions 1 to 10, each correct answer is awarded 6 marks.

1. A pyramid has a square as its base with sides length of 17 units. The lengths of the
slanted edges, going clockwise, are √506, √523, √778 and √761 units. What is the
volume of the pyramid?

Leave your answer as a whole number with no units.

2. Let ⌊𝑥⌋ and {𝑥} denote the integer part and the fractional part of 𝑥, respectively. For
example, ⌊3.14⌋ = 3 and {3.14} = 0.14. Solve:

⌊𝑥⌋{𝑥} + 𝑥 − {𝑥} = 4, for 𝑥 > 0

𝑚
The sum of all possible values of 𝑥 can be written as where 𝑚 and 𝑛 are relatively
𝑛
prime integers. Find the value of 𝑚 + 𝑛.

3. How many right-angled triangles are there with integer sides such that the area and
the perimeter have the same value?

4. Solve the equation:
|𝑥 2 − 1| + |𝑥 2 − 4| = 3𝑥

Let the sum of all possible values of 𝑥 be 𝑆. Find 100𝑆.

5. Find the sum of all possible values of 𝑛 such that 𝑛! has exactly 100 zeros at the end of
its decimal representation.

6. There are 12 points equally separated on the circumference of a circle. How many
ways are there to draw 4 line segments using these points as the vertexes; such that
all 4 lines intersect exactly 2 other lines? (Note that they can intersect at the
circumference)

7. 𝐴𝐷 is a diameter and 𝐴𝐵𝐶𝐷 is cyclic quadrilateral. If 𝐴𝐷 = 65, 𝐵𝐶 = 33 and 𝐴𝐵 = 25.
Find 𝐷𝐶.

8. A group of 5 pirates, 𝐴, 𝐵, 𝐶, 𝐷, 𝐸 (ranked in descending order), have just discovered
a treasure chest with 100 gold coins inside. They are deciding on a way to distribute
the gold coins. Their decision takes place by voting, with rules as follows:

i) The highest ranked pirate will propose how many coins each pirate receives.
ii) Everyone (including the proposer) will vote ‘Yes’ or ‘No’, to indicate whether they
agree with the distribution.
iii) The proposed distribution is accepted when at least half of the votes voted ‘Yes’.
iv) If the proposed distribution is rejected, the proposer will be thrown into the sea,
and the next highest ranked pirate will propose a distribution.

All 5 pirates are good mathematicians who value their lives and want to get as many
gold coins as possible.

How many coins will the Pirate 𝐴 get?

9. A whole number 𝑛 has exactly 12 positive factors. Given that one of the factors is 35
and the difference of two factors of 𝑛 is 8, Find the number of all possible value(s) of
𝑛.

10. Lynn likes to draw rockets as shown on the diagram. One day, he realises that he can
do so without lifting his pen and without tracing the same line twice. How many ways
are there to do so?

Section B

For questions 11 to 15, each correct answer is awarded 8 marks.

11. Santa Claus has 14 candies. He sees 4 Christmas Socks hanging on the wall. If there
must be at least 1 but not more than 5 candies in each sock, how many ways can
Santa Claus distribute the candies? He is not required to use all 14 candies.
