Mars App Evaluation

The app that I evaluated was Tangerine. This app falls under the Health and Fitness
category. I chose this app for my health goals which were to help me physically and mentally.
(Perez, 2020) Physically walking more and drinking more water daily. Mentally in thinking less
negative and feeling more positive of all the things in my life that I should be grateful for.
When using the MARS evaluation tool, I felt like it gave it a fair score. The Tangerine
app received a 3.4 mean score in engagement meaning it was good for the audience to use such
4.75, which was great because the app is easy to use and it is not confusing in any way. Super
simple for users. In section C, it received a mean score of 4.7 meaning the layout and graphics
were of great quality which I agree with. The color themes were engaging and not dull. In
section D, it received a 3.5 mean score because the app does not come from a legitimate funding
body which is why it received a lower score. (MARS App guidance, 2017)
I agree with the MARS evaluation in overall score of the tangerine app having an overall
app quality score of 4.1. It did not receive 5 stars because it is not perfect. The app lacks in
giving additional scientific based information regarding your health goals. For example the app
lacks the accessibility of credible, user friendly information and resources from reliable sources.
There also isn't an app community as I have seen in other apps where even providers and health
professionals are writing blogs about health goals one must have. Such as also providing
important information and online chats with others within the online community. I feel like if it
had this involved, It would have definitely gotten a better score. According to the apple app
store, overall ratings of the Tangerine app were in a way similar because the app got a 4.7 star
ratings with over 5.7k ratings. Many of the reviewers would mention similar things about the
app. Overall I agree with the score and the MARS app tool did a good job in evaluation. ( Apple,
2022)
I can see why they use the MARS to evaluate new health apps. It does a good job in
asking good questions and having us get the overall mean score. The tangerine app did a good
job in being engaging by sending me daily reminders and having me engage with the app by
documenting how I felt. It would also track my steps and let me know if I had not completed a
goal of mine for the day. Tangerine app was a good goal-setting app by giving me the chance to
monitor results through routine assessment along with useful methods to enhance many elements
