Soil Bearing Capacity Calcuations

The document provides details on calculating the bearing capacity of soil for foundation design. It includes: 1) A formula to calculate the ultimate bearing capacity of soil based on soil properties and a water table factor. 2) Soil property data and calculations of bearing capacity for a site. 3) Settlement calculations using a semi-empirical method for clayey soils. 4) The allowable bearing pressure is taken as the lesser of shear capacity or that which limits settlement to 74.2mm.

where,
C= soil cohesion
Nc,Nq,Nf are bearing capacity factors depending upon angle of shearing resistance
Sc,Sq,Sf are shape factors
dc,dq,df are depth factors
ic,iq,if are inclination factors
W' is water table correction factor
Bf is width of footing
qnu is the ultimate bearimg capacity of soil
γ' is submerged wt of soil

ø value is taken as average for signifant depth=0.5Btan(45+ø/2)

ø is the weighted average: tan((h1*tan-1(ø1)+…..+hn*tan-1(øn))/ ∑h)
