Time allowed: 3:00 hours Maximum marks: 70

General Instructions:
I. All questions are compulsory. There are 47 questions in all.
II. This question paper has four sections. Section A, Section B, Section C and Section D.
III. Section A contains 35 questions of one mark each. Question no. 1 to 20 are multiple choice
having one correct answer out of given four options while question no. 21 to 35 are of very
short answer type.
IV. Section B contains five questions of two marks each.
V. Section C contains five questions of three marks each.
VI. Section D contains two questions of five marks each.
VII. There is no overall choice. However, an internal choice has been provided in one question of
two marks, in one question of three marks and all the two questions of five marks weightage.
You have to attempt one of the choices in such questions.
VIII. Use of calculators is not allowed. Log table may be used if necessary.

SECTION C

41. Derive an expression for the capacitance of a parallel plate capacitor when a dielectric slab of dielectric constant K and
thickness t but of same area as that of the plates is inserted between the plates. Find the capacitance when t = d / 2

OR

State Gauss theorem and hence calculate electric field due to a thin linear conductor of charge density λ at a distance r.

42. Find the balancing condition of Wheatstone’s bridge with the help of Kirchhoff’s law.
43. Using Ampere’s circuital law find the magnetic field (i) inside, (ii) outside and (iii) along the axis of toroidal solenoid.
44. A device X connected with ac and found that current leads by π / 2 with voltage. Identify the device find the expression
for current and draw the frequency response curve with its reactance. Draw phasor diagram also.
45. When two known resistances, R and S, are connected in the left and right gaps of a meter bridge, the balance point is
found at a distance l1 from the zero end of meter bridge wire. An unknown resistance X is now connected in parallel to
the resistance S the balance point is now found at a distance l2 from the zero end of the meter bridge wire. Obtain a
formula for X in terms of l1, l2 and S.

SECTION D

46. State the working principal of potentiometer. Draw the labelled diagram of potentiometer to measure the emf of given
cell. How it can be made more sensitive. Write the probable reason that some times null point is not obtained.

OR

a) Draw the labelled diagram to compare the emf of two given cells and find the necessary expression also.
b) Draw the labelled diagram to find the internal resistance of given cell and find the necessary expression also.
47. Write the principle of moving coil galvanometer. With the help of labelled diagram explain the working of it and hence
find an expression for figure of merit of it. What is the importance of radial magnetic field in it.

OR

a) How the moving coil galvanometer can be made more sensitive. Define current sensitivity and voltage sensitivity. Write
the expression also.
b) Prove that increasing the current sensitivity will not affect the voltage sensitivity.
