2319491 - How to clean up the cache after applying changes that affect SAP Fiori apps

Symptom
You have applied some support package or note, but you cannot see the changes in your Fiori Launchpad. Some symptoms
may include:
Fiori Icons and Text missing on Fiori Tiles
Fiori Icons and Text overlapping on Fiori Tiles
After transporting Catalog/Group/App, changes does not reflect on target system.
Image/data in this KBA is from SAP internal systems, sample data, or demo systems. Any resemblance to real data is
purely coincidental.

Environment
SAP NetWeaver
SAP Web Application Server for SAP S/4HANA
ABAP PLATFORM - Application Server ABAP
SAP Fiori for SAP S/4HANA

Cause
After applying a support package or applying a note, clearing the server side cache is required in order to see the
changes.
Existence of an old cache (Browser or Global or system cache's) after upgrade.

Resolution
The cache can be invalidated in three different places: the client, the frontend system and the backend system. See each
section below:

Frontend:
Run report /UI5/APP_INDEX_CALCULATE in SE38 and retest the application after refreshing browser. Follow the

*If running the report /UI5/APP_INDEX_CALCULATE for a single repository, please make sure to re-calculate the index for
all dependencies. For SAP standard apps, dependencies such as central libraries should be listed under Fiori Apps Library >
Implementation Information > Configuration > SAPUI5 Application in the Technical Name column.

If the issue persists:

Invalidate ICM cache.
To do so, go to SMICM Menu, Goto -> HTTP Plug-in -> Server Cache -> Invalidate Globally
Invalidate metadata cache.
To do so, execute the following transaction: /n/IWFND/CACHE_CLEANUP
It may be necessary to place a * in the Model Identifier field

It may be necessary to invalidate the client caches

Execute SE38
Run /UI2/INVALIDATE_CLIENT_CACHES

Client:
The cache of any browser can be deleted manually from the settings of the browser. Also, if you are using Fiori Client, you can
do it manually with Settings -> Clear Cache.

Backend:
You may have to invalidate the metadata cache for the gateway in the backend system too. To do so, execute transaction
/n/IWBEP/CACHE_CLEANUP on the backend system.

If the issue still persist, you can disable UI2 Cache and to see if this is a UI2 Cache Issue:
If you detect any misbehaviour in the UI2 cache, firstly follow the next instructions, as indicated in note:

Exclude Outdated Cache as Error Source
To maintain maximum performance we deploy several caches on FES. Some of them are implemented as shared objects,
others as database tables. Also there are caches that form a cascade to reduce the load on the database to a minimum.

Please do not invalidate the UI2 caches! See instructions in note 2362875. You may have to clear the browser
cache. Our Product Support will tell you if this is necessary.

Now follow the actions in the order they are listed.

a. Exclude the UI2 Cache as Error Source
 i. In transaction SU3, set user parameter /UI2/CACHE_DISABLE to 'X'.
ii. Rerun scenario.
iii. If error is gone look for our bug fixes referenced in note 2362875.
iv. Apply the bug fix. If you are successful you are done else continue with the next action.
b. Exclude the Page Cache as Error Source
i. In transaction SU3, set user parameter /UI2/PAGE_CACHE_OFF to 'X'.
ii. Rerun scenario.
iii. If error is gone look for our bug fixes in component CA-FLP-ABA.
iv. Apply the bug fix. If you are successful you are done else continue with the next action.
c. Contact the Product Support
