Group Assignment 2
Group Assignment 2
During the library lessons, I learned several important concepts and skills related to libraries.
Below are some of the things I learned.
1. Library Organization
Libraries are organized spaces that house collections of books, reference materials, and other
study resources. The Riara University library is divided into sections or categories, such as
fiction, non-fiction, reference, periodicals, computer science, law books, business, and the list
goes on.
2. Library Catalogs
At Riara University, we use an online system and a physical library system.
Libraries use cataloging systems to organize and locate books and resources within their
collections. These catalogs can be physical card catalogs or digital systems, known as online
public access catalogs (OPACs). They contain information about the author, title, subject, and
location of each item.
3. Library Services
Libraries provide various services to their patrons, such as borrowing and returning books, this
facilitates my studies in the sense that they support my research, learning, and recreational
reading.
4. Library Etiquette
When using a library, it is important to follow certain etiquette rules. These include being quiet
and respectful, not damaging or defacing library materials, returning borrowed items on time,
and not disturbing other library users.
5. Research Skills
Libraries are invaluable resources for conducting research. I learned how to effectively search
for information using library catalogs, databases, and reference materials. I also learned about the
importance of critically evaluating sources and citing them properly.
6. Information Literacy
Information literacy is the ability to locate, evaluate, and use information effectively. In the
library lessons, I gained a better understanding of how to assess the credibility and reliability of
different sources, including books, articles, and websites.
7. Library Ethics
Libraries operate based on certain ethical principles, such as intellectual freedom, privacy, and
equal access to information. I learned about the importance of protecting intellectual freedom,
respecting copyright laws, and safeguarding patron privacy.
8. Library Resources
Libraries offer a wide range of resources beyond books, including magazines, newspapers,
digital resources, and special collections. These resources cater to different interests, age groups,
and research needs.
B) Write a summary of what you learned.
The library lessons have helped me expand my knowledge. It is so amazing for a reader to have
access to volumes of books, journals, and all reading resources in its shelves. For a curious
student like me, this is a place to get information for my research besides online sources of
information.
It has taught me that no matter how much we learn, there will always be more to explore,
encouraging me to be a lifelong learner and acquire knowledge.
The library has taught me to appreciate different opinions because they present to me different
viewpoints that challenge my ideas. This is good because growing up, I get ideas everywhere
that may not be the best ideas or beliefs to hold in life. Being open to new viewpoints allows me
to grow as a person. My goal in life is always to push myself to evolve and to do this I need to
acquire new ideas from books and embrace the habit of reading.
In an era of information overload, the library serves as a reliable source for me to verify the
trustworthiness and credibility of information. It has taught me the importance of critical
thinking and discernment, when evaluating my information sources. Navigating through various
references and publications, I realized the significance of verifying information to ensure its
accuracy and credibility.
Amid the busy world outside, the library offers an ample place to study and escape the chaos in
the World.
has taught me the value of a quiet place of study that allows me to block out all distractions and
concentrate on tasks at hand.
Above all, the library has rekindled my love for reading. It has reminded me of the
profound pleasure and escapism found within the pages of a book. Whether it is losing myself in
a fictional world or exploring the depths of non-fiction, the library has reignited my passion for
reading and the immense power of storytelling.
In conclusion, my library class has been transformative, enriching my life in countless ways. It
has taught me the value of knowledge, the importance of diverse perspectives, and the joy of
learning. The library class remains a moment of enlightenment, allowing me to step into a
lifelong journey of discovery, growth, and intellectual exploration.
