Beforre using yo our GPS receiver

or navigatioon (especiially for thee first timee), the
receivver must obtain a loccal GPS fix (coordinattes) of the current po osition. To dod this
take your lapto op (with yo our USB driver

configgured) to an a open area that has a clearr view to th he sky (su uch as a park

emptyy field). Sta art your sooftware (or the include ed GPS Info utility prrogram) an nd wait
for iniitialization of the GPS S to comple ete. This may

variouus factors such as th he distance e of the cuurrent coorrdinates frrom the las st time

Once the GPS receiver’s driver and d your perrsonal map pping softwware havee been
installed and coonfigured properly,

The GPS uses satellites

n the spacee to find out where it is. Thereefore it nee
eds a
clear view
v of the sky. Tall buildings
b and other objects thatt block the receiver’s view
to the sky
s make it infeasible to determ mine your location. Sometime es the sateellites
are not overhead d but near the horizoon. In these
e cases thee GPS mu ust have a clear
