Subject: Re: Travel reimbursement
Date: April 11

Hi Lisa,
Yes, I’m aware that you haven’t yet been reimbursed for expenses from your trip
taken from March 31 to April 2. Please rest assured that there were no problems with
your reimbursement request form and receipts. I’ve processed the request and sent it
to my department head for final approval, but she was on vacation last week and is
just catching up on her work right now. I’m sure she’ll get to your request by the end
of the week.
Also, while I’m happy to put your mind at ease this first time, we generally ask that
employees let two weeks pass after the date of submission before following up on a
reimbursement request. We appreciate your patience.
Thanks,
Nobuhito

Lydia, I just stopped by the conference room, and there was terrible noise from the
renovations they’re doing to the building next door. If it’s like that this afternoon, I’m

Lydia Houston [10:37 A.M.]
Oh no! I really don’t want to postpone it because that project already has a tight
schedule.
Tyrone Brady [10:38 A.M.]
I know. Well, maybe we can ask the renovation contractor if it will still be so noisy

the meeting.

Dr. Yu-Jin Cheong, DPM

Lawler Podiatry Group
1200 Minten Lane ∙ Lawler, AR 71631
(501) 555-0132

To Whom It May Concern:

I am writing on behalf of Jason Hammond, my patient and your employee. As you

can see in the enclosed medical records that I am providing with Mr. Hammond’s
consent, I have been treating him for a foot condition for the past six months.
This condition is made worse by standing on hard flooring, as he does for roughly
six hours each workday. Mr. Hammond has begun wearing orthopedic shoes to
lessen the condition’s impact, but in my professional opinion, additional action is
necessary to address it.

Mr. Hammond says that it would be difficult to teach his classes while sitting down,
so the next best option is for him to stand on a padded orthopedic mat. Please
consider purchasing and installing such a mat at the front of his classroom as a
reasonable accommodation for a condition covered by current laws on disabilities
in the workplace.

You may contact me at 555-0132, extension 6, to discuss this issue.

Sincerely,
Yu-Jin Cheong, DPM

Questions 168-171 refer to the following memo.

MEMO
To: All employees
From: Calvin Fields, CEO
Re: E-mail usage
Date: May 7
Effective next Monday, May 13, Carbajal Associates will prohibit employees
from using their company e-mail account for personal business. From that
point on, personal e-mails may not be exchanged through your company
account and the account’s address may not be given out for non-work
purposes. — [1] —.
“Personal e-mails” here refers to those exchanged with not just family or
friends, but also businesses and organizations such banks, medical providers,
and utilities companies for reasons unrelated to Carbajal Associates

purposes would involve providing the address when opening member
accounts on Web sites, buying items or services, subscribing to publications,
etc., for reasons unrelated to company business or to career development
that would directly impact company business.
This policy is being implemented on the advice of information technology
experts in order to reduce the risk of unwanted intrusions into our computer
network. Given the loss of money and reputation that such breaches could
cause, I hope you will join me in taking this change extremely seriously.
— [3] —. Also, please be aware that, in order to ensure that the policy is
being followed, the information technology department will perform
intermittent checks of activity occurring in your company e-mail account.
The employee handbook is currently being updated to include this policy.

Ruth Thomas [4:33 P.M.]

Oh, really? Doesn’t that leave us short-staffed for this fund-raising dinner?

Larry Williams [4:34 P.M.]

Lien Pham is coming. Luckily, she wasn’t busy this weekend. I’ll text her now
and make sure she’s on her way.

Thanks. But Larry, can you let me know about personnel changes in advance
next time?

LEGER AUDIO TO RELEASE LIMITED SERIES ON JUICEBUZZ

Leger Audio has announced the upcoming release of Out of Juice , a four-part podcast on the
rise and fall of JuiceBuzz. A California-based start-up, JuiceBuzz raised millions of dollars
from investors to produce and sell its smart juicing system—until a newspaper’s investigation
showed that almost all of the expensive equipment included in the system was actually
unnecessary.
Out of Juice is hosted by Malcom Perkins and produced by Binita Khatri, the team behind the
Coleman Award-nominated podcast On the Run . They have brought the same mix of thorough
reporting and comprehensive insight to JuiceBuzz’s story, both detailing the fascinating
specifics of the company’s growth and connecting these to the larger context surrounding start-
ups and venture capitalism. The series will consist of the following episodes.
1. The Beginning
Health enthusiast Shane McQueen has the idea for a smart juicing system and founds
JuiceBuzz.
2. The Money
Venture capital firms are convinced of the need to “disrupt” traditional ways of making
fruit juice at home.
3. The Exposé
Gannon Post reporter Megan Russell looks into the technology of the smart juicing
system and announces her findings to the world.
4. The Fallout
Consumers and investors react to the Gannon Post story, ultimately leading to
JuiceBuzz’s closure.

Out of Juice will be available for free from all major podcast distributors. Episodes will
come out each Monday, starting on December 29.

Reviews of Out of Juice

Just OK so far ★★★☆☆ (3 out of 5 stars)

To be fair, I’ve only listened to the episode on JuiceBuzz’s investors. I’m hoping
to create my own start-up, so I’m really interested in stories of how start-ups
get funding. But I found the host’s explanation of JuiceBuzz’s growth unclear. I
did check out the sources listed in the episode’s notes, though, and they were
really helpful. Also, the podcast’s style was pretty entertaining, with jokes that
genuinely made me laugh. So I’ll probably give the remaining episodes a try.

Subject: Uniforms

Hi Clara,
I’ve thought about your suggestion to introduce staff uniform shirts, and I agree that we
should do it. Customers should be able to know what to expect when they walk into any
Apex Hardware, and that will only become more important as we continue to add new
locations.
I’d like you to take charge of finding a supplier and placing the orders. Please start by
getting sample shirts in a few colors and styles. We’ll want the shirts to look good with
our logo, so try ordering one in each color in the logo, plus white, since that’s a nice
neutral color. As for the styles, just keep it simple.
Thanks, and please keep me updated on this project as it progresses!

Hello,
I’m a longtime Whisk Air customer who recently moved away from its hub to
Larnwick, so I plan to fly with Navi Airlines frequently. I’m glad I can earn and
redeem Whisk Advantage mileage through your flights since you’re also a
member of the Bluewing Alliance. But I’m writing today because I’m having
trouble navigating your Web site. I’d like to know what kind of seat I can get to
fly from here in Canada to Mendino in South America and back with my current
number of miles—roughly 71,000. Whisk Air’s Web site has a page with a table
that clearly shows that kind of information, so I assumed that yours would too,
but I can’t find it. Can you point me in the right direction?
Thanks,
