GLOBALIZATION
- refers to the integration of
global economics, industries,
markets, culture and policies
making around the world free
from socio-political control
and reduce distances between
regions and countries through
a global network of trade,
communication, immigration,
and transportation.
RELIGION
- a set of organized
beliefs, practices, and
systems that most often
relate to the belief and
worship of a controlling
force, such as a personal
god or another supernatural
being.
RELATIONSHIP OF
GLOBALIZATION AND
RELIGION
• Religion takes advantage of communication and
transportation technology, it is at the same time
the source of globalization’s greatest resistance
by acting as a haven for those standing in
opposition to its power.
• Because globalization allows for daily contact,
religion enters a circle of conflict in which
religions become “more self-conscious of
themselves as being world religions”.
POSITIVE IMPACTS OF
GLOBALIZATION ON RELIGION
• Globalization helps increase greater religious tolerance and acceptance of
other cultures and religions and enhances our minds & and knowledge.
• Important social roles such as Catholic Relief Services, World Vision
International, and Islamic Relief Worldwide, etc., serve many disadvantaged
areas such as poverty relief, health care, the HIV/AIDs crisis, and
environmental problems.
• Globalization opens a new door for religion that enhances cooperation, and
tolerance and brings new opportunities and possibilities.
• Globalization also brings global political forums that try to diminish cultural,
ethnic, ideological, and religious differences.
NEGATIVE EFFECTS OF
GLOBALIZATION ON RELIGION
• Globalization breaks traditional beliefs as people are more connected with
the world which sometimes weakens their own religious beliefs.

• Globalization is causing a decline in traditional religious beliefs, leading to

the emergence of new, potentially fragmented spiritual practices,
highlighting religion's adverse effects.

• Globalization with its consumerism culture brings changes in women’s

dress that sometimes impact negatively.

• Religious terrorism is terrorism that is carried out based on motivations

and goals that have a predominantly religious character or influence.
Examples of Globalization
on Religion
• Websites provide opportunities to contact
with others worldwide and give information
and explanations about different religions
regardless of his/her geographical location
so that religious ideas can be spread
everywhere.

• Through various TV channels, radio, internet

etc, religious ideas are disseminated.
• We find various TV channels such as Iqrae,
Ennass, Majd, El Houda, Erahma, Peace TV,
etc., as purely religious channels created for
the strengthening and the fortification of
Islam.

• Important social roles, such as those carried

out by organizations like Catholic Relief
Services, World Vision International, and
Islamic Relief Worldwide, serve many
disadvantaged areas by addressing issues
such as poverty relief, healthcare, the
HIV/AIDS crisis, and environmental
problems.
• The Africans find the church to be a place
where they can seek assistance and relief.
The Winner’s Church in Nigeria is one of
Africa’s fastest-growing churches,
providing support to members who come
seeking salvation from economic hardship.

• The United Nations (UN), the World Health

Organization (WHO), the European Union
(EU), the African Union (AU), the
Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC),
and other organizations share fundamental
commitments rooted in religious traditions,
such as peace, human dignity, equality,
religious freedom, and conflict resolution.
• The Roman Catholic Church also takes part
in international affairs. For example, it
participated in the Jubilee 2000, an
international effort advocating for the
cancellation of third-world debt by the
year 2000.
