GLOBALIZATION
- refers to the integration of
global economics, industries,
markets, culture and policies
making around the world free
from socio-political control
and reduce distances between
regions and countries through
a global network of trade,
communication, immigration,
and transportation.
RELIGION
- a set of organized
beliefs, practices, and
systems that most often
relate to the belief and
worship of a controlling
force, such as a personal
god or another supernatural
being.
RELATIONSHIP OF
GLOBALIZATION AND
RELIGION
• Religion takes advantage of communication and
transportation technology, it is at the same time
the source of globalization’s greatest resistance
by acting as a haven for those standing in
opposition to its power.
• Because globalization allows for daily contact,
religion enters a circle of conflict in which
religions become “more self-conscious of
themselves as being world religions”.
POSITIVE IMPACTS OF
GLOBALIZATION ON RELIGION
• Globalization helps increase greater religious tolerance and acceptance of
other cultures and religions and enhances our minds & and knowledge.
• Important social roles such as Catholic Relief Services, World Vision
International, and Islamic Relief Worldwide, etc., serve many disadvantaged
areas such as poverty relief, health care, the HIV/AIDs crisis, and
environmental problems.
• Globalization opens a new door for religion that enhances cooperation, and
tolerance and brings new opportunities and possibilities.
• Globalization also brings global political forums that try to diminish cultural,
ethnic, ideological, and religious differences.
NEGATIVE EFFECTS OF
GLOBALIZATION ON RELIGION
• Globalization breaks traditional beliefs as people are more connected with
the world which sometimes weakens their own religious beliefs.
