2023 PAMBANSANG BUWAN AT ARAW NG PAGBASA

Secondary School Heads

1. To foster love for reading among learners and enhance their understanding of reading and
literacy as pivotal in cultivating critical thinking, this Schools Division, through the
Curriculum Implementation Division, will lead in the celebration of the 2023
Pambansang Buwan at Araw ng Pagbasa (PBAP), this whole month of November.

2. With the theme ”PAGBASA; Pag-asa sa MATATAG na Kinabukasan,” this year’s


reading month celebration urges all elementary and secondary public and private schools
to actively participate in the suggested activities herein. Additionally, all schools are
encouraged to explore related activities and organize programs to further capacitate
reading teachers.

3. On November 15, 2023, all schools shall conduct during the morning flag-raising
ceremony a school-wide reading activity featuring a mystery reading ambassador from
7:30am to 8:30am. Regular classes will resume thereafter.

4. In accordance with Republic Act No. 10556, declaring November 27 as Araw ng Pagbasa
, the PBAP shall culminate with a nationawide synchronized reading on November 28,
2023 at 9:00 a.m.

5. Nevertheless, school activities during the celebration must be in adherence to DepEd


Order No. 9, series 2005, Instituting measures to Increase Engaged Time-on-Task and
Ensuring Compliance Therewith so as not to disrupt essential contact time between
teachers and learners.

6. All Districts through the Public Schools District Supervisors (PSDSs), together with
District Reading Coordinators shall submit the District Report (consolidation of ACRs in
schools) on the conduct of the 2023 PBAP, duly signed by the PSDSs to the CID, any day
on the first week of December 2023, c/o DR. RUSTUM D. GEONZON, Division
Reading Coordinator in soft copy to a link that shall be provided on December 4, 2023.

7. Immediate dissemination and compliance of this Memorandum are hereby enforced.

LIST OF SUGGESTED ACTIVITIES IN THE PBAP

1 READING PICNIC AT SUNDOWN This will be an interactive, fun and meaningful activity
that will start 3pm in the afternoon (with adjusted class
schedules having all learning areas/subjects recited from
7:30 am to 3:00 pm) that will feature storytelling,
individual contests such as: spell-a-word and win a coin,
storyretelling, listening comprehension, word
formation/palindrome and dugtungang pagbasa.
2 READING AMBASSADOR Parents, Teachers, DepEd Officials and other
stakeholders are invited to to serve as reading
ambassador for the week. Ambassador, known for their
love of reading and enthusiasm to inspire others will
read stories to groups of learners during the flag-raising
ceremony.
3 READING CHALLENGE Learners will read the Reading Challenge text and
respond to questions posed by teachers in the Reading
Progress using MS Teams during the school-level
activities. Modifications of this activity is encouraged to
fit the school’s context. Top readers must be awarded
during the November 28, 2023 Araw ng Pagbasa
