The document provides a brief introduction to the Ericsson Charging System (CS 5.2.1) and describes its main network elements: SDP stores subscriber and account information and handles real-time charging; AIR/AF provide location information and act as a DNS; CCN provides interfaces between the core network and other elements; CS-NMT handles upgrades and installations; VS stores and manages vouchers; and OCC acts as an access point and handles requests between the core network and other elements.

A brief introduction to
Ericsson Charging System
(CS 5.2.1) Network Elements Charging System includes following nodes: SDP AIR/AF CCN CS-NMT VS OCC Charging System (CS 5.2.1) SDP • The SDP network element contains the database with subscribers and account information. It provides rating of calls and events as well as post processing of Charging Data Records (CDRs). SDP controls the life cycle of the subscriber accounts and manages real time charging of any service. • SDP is also responsible for sending notifications through Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD), Short Message Service (SMS), or file. Furthermore, SDP can take and return policy decisions AIR & AF • AF is a network element that provides location information for subscriber accounts in the system, and it acts as a DNS. It stores the SDP ID and the related IP address for each MSISDN in the network. AF is always collocated with AIR. • The AIR server handles messages from both traffic and administrative network elements inside a charging system. • It holds Enquiry & Update, Adjustment, Refil ( Account Refil, Value Refil, Premium Refil, Optional Refil, Location Aware Refil). CCN • The Charging Control Node (CCN) is a part of Ericsson Charging System. The main purpose of the CCN is to provide interfaces between the core network and the other network elements of the current charging system. To perform this task, CCN supports a number of protocols, both towards the MSC and the different network elements. CS-NMT • CS-NMT is a Charging System network element that handles upgrade, migration, and installation activities of Charging System nodes such as SDP, AIR/AF, VS, IVR, MINSAT, and CCN. • CS-NMT consists of SUF Server, SUF CLI Client and Installation Server. VS • The VS provides functions related to the administration and storage of the vouchers. It takes part in Voucher Refill call flow by providing voucher information such as the voucher value, ISO 4217 currency code, serial number of voucher and voucher group. • It is deployed over Linux platform which uses separate databases to store voucher definitions and business configuration. It uses open-source Java technologies such as Open Service Gateway initiative (OSGi), ZooKeeper and Cassandra. OCC • OCC acts as the access network element and service integration point. It also acts as the interface and session handler for charging and policy requests between the core network and the network elements in the solution. Thanks…
