1. Try to read the sentences out loud as naturally as possible. Avoid repeating the same sentences.
2. Avoid using contractions.
Example: The library is closed.
Read as: "The library is closed"
Read as: "The library's closed".
1. Practise saying numbers, money and the letters of the alphabet before the test. Say the numbers,
times, signs (%, $) and individual letters in:
Example: The 5% discount is only on orders over $10,000.

1. Some sentences may look difficult or long. Look for punctuation (e.g. commas) which helps you
pause when you speak.

GENERAL TIPS FOR SPEAKING TEST
1. Say as much as you can, but stay on the topic.
2. Add details (examples and reasons) to the prompt given.
3. Use a range of grammar and vocabulary.
4. Don’t give a brief or one-word response.
5. Don’t need to be true to the answers; rather demonstrate your ability to use a
variety of language structures.
6. Try to speak for all the time available. The green bar shows you how long you
