This academic concept paper examines the relationship between students' time management and academic performance. It proposes a quantitative study that would survey students at Lucan Central Colleges about their time management habits such as time spent studying and organizing. The study aims to determine if there is a correlation between effective time management behaviors and higher academic achievement. ACADEMIC CONCEPT PAPER

“Students’ Time Management and their Academic Performance”

Introduction

Time management is the process of planning and organizing your time in

a way that allows you to be more productive, accomplish more, and reduce

stress (Kolesnikova, 2023). Managing academics, projects, assignments, and

exam preparation for the term can be a stressful task for many young learners.

Students who are unable to divide their time equally among the various subjects

often resort to last-minute cramming, which not only leads to poor grades but

also hampers their learning ability. By recognizing the value of time and utilizing it

effectively to focus on their goals, students can achieve more with less effort

(Panigrahi, 2019).

Academic performance is the measurement of student achievement

across various academic subjects. Teachers and education officials typically

measure achievement using classroom performance, graduation rates, and

results from standardized tests (Ballotpedia, 2022). This study will take place in

Lucan Central Colleges Incorporation. The Senior High School students at Lucan

Central Colleges will be the participants of this study. The problem that this study

tends to work out is to determine students’ time management in their academic

performance.

Background

Nasrullah & Muhammad (2015) stated, time management is very

important and may actually affect individual’s overall performance. Their study
found out that time management is highly related to the academic performance of

the university students. There was a significant and positive relation between

time planning, time management and academic performance of the students.

Based on the finding of Olusegun (2019) students experienced poor time

management and poor academic performance. This implies that proper

management of time enhances academic performance while the reverse is the

case. Based on the analysis of Olusegun (2019), combining effective time

management, adept social media skills, and positive peer influence can positively

impact academic performance.

Objectives

This study aims to find if there is any significant relationship between time

management and students’ academic performance. This study specifically aims

to:

1. To determine the level of time management.

2. To determine the level of academic performance.

3. To examined the relationship between time management and students’

academic performance in Lucan Central Colleges, Inc.

Methodology

This study will use a quantitative research study focused on students' time

management and academic performance; a correlational research method would

be employed. Researchers would gather data through surveys or questionnaires,

quantifying variables such as time spent on studying, organization methods,

class attendance, and overall academic performance of Lucan Central Colleges,

Inc. students. The study would then analyze the correlation between time

management behaviors and academic achievement, aiming to identify any

significant relationships or patterns.
