JOB DESCRIPTION

Organisational Context and reporting line:


 This role is within the Financial Planning and Reporting team of the Finance Services Directorate,
which provides a quality financial information, analysis, insight and advice to customers. The team
supports University stakeholders to achieve the University’s strategic objectives. The services
provided include management information, financial and strategic planning and forecasting, scenario
modelling and options appraisal, risk management, stewardship and monitoring of budgets and value
generation
 Financial Accounting is responsible for statutory reporting and returns, implementing technical
accounting standards and providing professional advice and expertise
 This role reports to the Senior Financial Accountant. The role will support both the financial accounting
and treasury functions
 A structure chart is attached
 This is a hybrid working role, split between working from home and from the office

Main purpose of the job:


To provide a general enquiry, administration and support service for Finance Services, to assist in both
financial accounting and treasury.

Main duties and accountabilities


 Provide an efficient and effective enquiry, advisory, administrative and finance support service for
financial accounting and treasury
 Administration of finance accounts, processes and data to ensure consistent and compliance. This
may include reviewing exceptions, inputting data, reconciliations, carrying out journal transfers and
monitoring financial controls
 Preparation and posting of financial accounting transactions and adjustments, including balance sheet
accounting and endowment funds
 Maintenance of fixed asset register, including posting of additions, disposals and depreciation
 Assist financial accounting and treasury in providing financial reports and associated commentary,
insight and advice
 Support the Senior Financial Accountants in delivering the financial statements and other
external/statutory financial reports compliant with current accounting standards, HE sector specific
guidance and other legislative requirements
 Develop the capability of key stakeholders in their use of finance processes and systems to ensure
adherence to the University financial regulations, policy and standards.
 Contribute to the development of financial strategies and operate within them once agreed
 Act as a key contact for staff to access the Finance Service, including signposting where appropriate
but ultimately representing the service to academics/PS staff and managing issues through to
resolution and escalating where necessary
 Undertake other duties and projects as may be reasonably required
