Access - Chapter 4 - Working with

Forms and Reports

Formatting Controls
Once you have created your form or report, it is easy to change formatting in Layout view. Click the control
you want to change, and then make your formatting selections from the Ribbon. While these formatting
techniques also work in Design view, in Layout view you can immediately see the formatting change. The
formatting options discussed in this skill are available for both forms and reports.
For forms, these commands are found on the Format tab in Layout view.
For reports, these commands are found on the Format tab in Layout view.
To apply the same formatting to multiple controls at the same time, press Ctrl as you click each control.
From the Font group, click the buttons to apply standard text formatting such as bold, italic, and underline,
change the font, font size, or font color, and align text to the left, center, or right side of the control box.

If the database is not already open, open the data file AC04-11-Spa and try this skill on your own:
1. If necessary, open the AppointmentDetails form in Layout view.
2. Select all the label controls in the form and apply bold formatting.
3. With the label controls still selected, apply the Dark Blue font color. Use the fourth color from the left
in the first row of standard colors.
4. Select only the ApptDate bound text box control and apply the Long Date format.
5. Save and close the form.
6. If necessary, open the AppointmentsSchedule report in Layout view. If your database does not include
this report, create it following the steps in Creating a New Blank Report in Layout View and Adding
Fields to a Report in Layout View.
7. Apply the Comma Number format to the Price bound text box control.
8. Save the report.
9. Keep the AppointmentsSchedule report open if you are moving on to the next skill; close it if you are
finished working with these skills.
