disadvantages of fire tube and water tube designs. The course will cover the basic construction of boilers, examining key components and

or disadvantages.
2. Analyze the construction and the operating principles of the different configuration of steam turbine system.
Course Outcome : 3. Operate the steam boiler and associated auxiliaries in accordance with the established rules and procedures to ensure safety and
avoid pollution of marine environment.
4. Analyze the operation of steam propulsion plant performance in the light of fuel efficiency.
5. Apply the analysis in fault detection and initiate actions to be taken during operations to meet consistently the requirements.

Course Intake Limitations : The number of students that can be accommodated shall not exceed 40 students for lecture classes and 20 students for laboratory classes.

Faculty Requirement : Instructor The faculty that will be assigned to handle the course must possess the following qualifications:

● **Officer in Charge of a Watch on seagoing ships powered by main propulsion machinery of 750 kW propulsion power or more;
● 12 months of seagoing experience as "Officer in Charge of a Watch on seagoing ships of 500 gross tonnage or more;
● preferably with teaching experience;
● BSMarE degree;
● completed Training Course for Instructors (IMO Model Course 6.09) or its equivalent as approved by the Maritime Administration; and
● completed Training Course on Assessment, Examination and Certification of Seafarers (IMO Model Course 3.12) or its equivalent as
approved by the Maritime Administration.
Note:
**Fourth Engineer or Third Engineer

The faculty that will be assigned to handle topics related to management level KUPs under the course must possess the following
qualifications:
● Chief Engineer Officer or Second Engineer Officer on seagoing ship powered by main propulsion machinery of 750 kW propulsion power
or more;
● preferably with teaching experience;
● BSMarE degree;
● completed Training Course for Instructors (IMO Model Course 6.09) or its equivalent as approved by the Maritime Administration; and
● completed Training Course on Assessment, Examination and Certification of Seafarers (IMO Model Course 3.12) or its equivalent as
approved by the Maritime Administration.
In addition to the qualifications listed, faculty members teaching courses involving the use of simulators shall have:
● completed the 'Train the Simulator Trainer and Assessor Course" (IMO Model Course 6.10) or its equivalent as approved by the Maritime

Administration;
● gained practical operational experience on the particular type of simulators being used by the MHEI concerned; and
● completed transfer of knowledge and training provided by the simulator supplier.
Assessor
The assessor assigned shall have the same qualification above.

LECTURE CLASSROOM The standard classroom size shall be a minimum of 48 square meters; no side shall be less than 6 meters for a
class of 40 students. The classroom must be illuminated at least 50.76 Lux and well-ventilated. It should contain the following:
